The next morning, Addison awakens early, glancing over noticing Joe.
Groaning at her headache, she forces herself out of bed, wiggling out of Joe's arms and goes to the restroom, using the toilet before grabbing two tylenol and going to the kitchen. She takes the medicine and downs a glass of water before refilling the glass, taking out a pan and turning on the stove.
She begins to cook, putting eggs into one plan before getting out another and starting to fry some bacon.
Almost 15 minutes later, as the smell of food engulfs the apartment, Joe awakens in the bedroom, rubbing his eyes and forcing himself out of bed before using the restroom and walking into the kitchen to notice Addison in a daze, looking out across the room in her own thoughts.
Joe licks his lips, walking over and flipping the bacon.
"Shit, sorry," Addison mumbles, obviously snapping out of her moment.
"It's okay," Joe says softly. "It's just about done anyway."
She nods, grabbing two plates and allowing him to divide the eggs and bacon between the two of them as she butters two pieces of toast and sets one slice on each of their plates.
"Thank you," Joe tells her, sitting at the table with her and putting a fork-full of eggs into his mouth.
Addison bites into a piece of bacon, slowly chewing as she stares off before sighing. "When did you get here?"
He looks across the table, swallowing the food in his mouth. "About 3."
"You travelled all the way back here instead of sleeping? I told you I'm okay."
"Yeah, and I know you better than that," he says, nodding.
She looks over, giving him a look.
"Baby," he starts grabbing his hand. "I know you. You've hidden so much of your feelings that it's like second nature. You're not used to being comforted because of how you grew up. I don't know much about your dad but I know that for the longest time all you wanted to do was make him proud and you'd do anything to make that happen. I know he was the one person you missed most in your family after leaving. Not because he was supportive of your decisions but because he's your dad. And yeah, I know you say you didn't miss him or them but I know better. I know you were devastated when you had to choose which life you wanted for yourself."
Addison listens, looking away from him as she pushes tears back.
"I've never lost a parent, Addison. I'm lucky to say that. So I can't say I know how you feel. Damn, I've tried to imagine it and I can't. But I know that from seeing it happen to others, it's one of the hardest things to ever go through. That's your dad, babe. I know you're not okay. And that's okay. But you gotta let me be here for you through it. You can't do it alone. I won't let you," he finishes, squeezing her hand gently.
"You're right," she whispers. "I'm not okay. But you have work and I can't-"
"I've canceled everything for a few days and I'll cancel for more if I have to."
"No," she interrupts, giving him a look. "I can't control that you've already canceled some but you're not canceling anymore. You guys have shows in Texas this weekend. I guess it's just lucky that my dad died the same time you were traveling there."
He gives her a confused look.
"So you can come to the funeral with me," she says, looking at me.
He raises his eyebrows. "You wanna go?"
She shrugs. "My mom really sounded like she wanted me to. I mean, I wanna go more for Stella and Liam but she'll be there too I guess."
He nods. "And you want me to come?"
