An Island Away

Hades pushed his subconscious through her memories as fast as possible as he looked for Persephone, the memories swimming around him, He growled as another wave of memories came crashing over him dousing him in names and places

"Hecate, what's wrong with her? Why won't she heal from her fall?" demanded Demeter

Hecate scowled as she rose from her assessment, the healing herbs that were around Persephone coming away golden from her ichor, as many of the wounds continued to leak, while others were blocked by sand. Hecate herself would never have used sand to clog blood flow as it would normally cause infection, however, the sand seemed to be the only thing saving Persephone from bleeding out.

"Demeter," Hecate started in a cool tone  as if she was talking to someone with little sense, "This island is accursed by Aphrodite, any who are in bondage to love cannot prosper on it, why do you think the nomadic women on the island run around in misery? Her physical wounds will not heal, or even begin to close up until she is emotionally healed. You can even feed her ambrosia or nectar but it will only create more ichor for her to lose, the real wound is inside"...

There was a long pause as Hecate let that sink in before she continued, "The other option is to take her off the island. Go back to your field and temples and let her heal naturally, within a day or two she should be back to normal."

Demeter cursed, "If I do that then Zuse will try to marry her off to someone, or she will run away. For a goddess of crossroads, you certainly have not given me any real options."

Hecate nodded, as she made to leave, "Just don't wait too long to make your decision already her life force is waining, she may be immortal but it doesn't mean she cant fade.

Where was she? Hades weighted out of the memory as he sidestepped another incoming one.

"Persephone stop thrashing about in your sleep. You will undo the moss and sand blocking the wounds!"

Hades had never wished for control of water as much as he did then as he rode out the waves one memory after another. He was able to combat a few but then larger emotions of despair or rejection would boil up causing the sea of emotions to froth. Hades knew one way that would bring the waves to a stop but he didn't want to use any of Orpheus' tricks, as sleep would not help Persephone face her misery on her own. He knew that if he could pluck it out the right memory in the foam, he would be able to reach Persephone's direct subconscious and be able to wake her from this mental trap. Hades glanced back at the island memories as he wondered where he could jolt her enough to metaphorically "snap out of it"

There! Hades lunged for the right memory, it was like a small glow in the depths of Tartarus he hurled his power at it like an Olympic athlete hurling a javelin. With the roar of blood in his ears, he shook the little island apart as the earth split, his golden chariot charging out of the depths, the four sable black horses screaming with exhilaration. "RIDE ORPHANEAUS, AETHON, NYCTAEUS, ALASTOR!! FIND HER, FIND MY BRINGER OF DEATH." The horses rode hard across the island, reaching the beach in a matter of moments as Hades spotted Persephone's limp form, on a bed of golden flowers. Without stopping he reached down and plucked her into his arms, throwing her over his shoulder as one hand kept hold of the reigns, the demon horses pulling at their bits. Hades upon hoisting her had unintentionally shifted her bandages causing Persephone to cry out with pain at first. It was this cry that the locals heard during the earthquake which destroyed much of their island home.

Hades when realizing what was wrong immediately set Persephone on the golden floor of the chariot right below the axle, as he held her to him with his left arm, still controlling the horses with his right. "Are you alright? I'm sorry I didn't mean to be so rough "Persphone panted as her hair flew around her the landscape shifting as Hades steered back to the opening in the ground. "You came!" a small gasp of a whimper came out as she admitted, "Hecate told me you would.. but I... I just didn't think you would."
