A melodious voice came along with the knock at the door as Demeter stepped quickly to open it, mentally locking the upstairs bedrooms.
"Demeter?... Demeter I know your in their" the mans voice was a mild tenor that could catch the high notes as he called through the wood of the door.Upon opening the door Demeter looked at Apollo with sharp eyes as she blocked the doorway with her body. "What is it? You and no other male is welcomed here"
"Oh Demeter so dramatic! I was sent here by our illustrious king Zeus" Apollo said with a flourish of his hand. The sun tanned tall god in gold armor shoved his way lightly past Demeter who didn't look pleased. Looking around the modest living Apollo cringed only accustomed to the grandeur of his palace and Olympus. As he strode to the kitchen table he began divulging information.
"Zeus wants me to remind you of the celebration tonight, everyone is to be their no exceptions, Ares is even leaving his beloved battle fields to come. I also came here to say that the king's invitation is extended to your daughter who I believe has just turned 160? Zeus wants me to escort you to Olympus with the girl this evening. Zeus said specifically that there are to be no more excuses no more stalling I am to be in the house until sunset which is when I drive you two to Olympus."
Demeter looked ready to burst as Apollo finished, she wanted to kick the arrogant god right into the sun. Schooling her features Demeter said, "Persephone is not going"
"According to Zeus she is Demeter, I have my orders"
"Persephone is not going, I will heed his reminder and go to the celebration but my daughter stays here in the house under my protection."
Apollo who had sat down and propped his feet up on the table then set them on the ground with a laud stomp as he stood up in a flewid motion appearing in front of Demeter.
"Zeus never said I had to bring you in one peace"
Demeter looked shocked at first that Apollo had the guts to threaten her in her own house, but then suddenly with her earthly magic she hurled Apollo out of the kitchen and straight through the door against a large oak tree. Quickly growing ivy vines from the ground and tree she bound him her magic growing from the earth as she increased the bonds and secured a gag in place of poison ivy so that Apollo could not spew his threats.
"YOU WILL REMEMBER WHO YOU SPEAK TO BOY. I am one of the original 5 and was harvesting the earth before Zeus ever took your mother to bed" bellowed Demeter as her rage filled the expanse of the house and surrounding fields, the earth shaking with every word.
Apollo struggled for a few minutes but then stopped as more vines were added with each movement.
"Youdjxhdhsh willssgh havejsn to goooogh" he called around the gag to the back of Demeter as she left him there.
The door slammed shut on his face as Demeter entered the house, slumping into a chair at the kitchen table. The locks on Persephone's door were loosened as Demeter let her daughter come out.
All the rage and anger that Persephone had felt radiating from her mother was gone as she found Demeter looking dejected in the kitchen.
"Mother! Your all right! When I heard the commotion I didn't know what had happened! Who was that? How did he know my age? Is it true that Zeus is forcing you to go?" Persephone couldn't hold back her torrent of questions as she came to the table. She was afraid because of the power that she had felt and the arrogant tone of the man, but at the same time nothing this big had ever happened, even when Persephone had gotten lost in the woods at the age of 100 for a whole night.
Demeter didn't answer all of the questions as she simply said. "I am fine, you however will need to start getting ready we have an hour before sunset."
Shocked Persephone only stuttered, "m-m-meee? G-g-get ready?"
Demeter stood once again the regal goddess of harvest as she said "yes, go get your light green dress on and clean your hair" her tone even and normal Demeter left her daughter to go change as well.
