Persephone had the beginnings of a headache as she headed back into the palace. She knew that if she went to court the headache would probably get worse, so she opted to go to Hades' and her's office. The study was on the second floor of the palace and near the library.

As she walked to the study she began to remember how her mother used to be, before she found out about Hades, even before the party on Olympus.

After Demeter had been raped by Zeus and conceive Kora/Persephone, she had secluded herself on earth among her followers raising her child up away from the debacle of Olympus.

Persephone had been in love with her mother back then, following her around always clutching the hem of her skirt. She used to get so frustrated because she could not make useful plants like her mother could, only ever able to produce small flowers that were not helpful to anyone.

Demeter though never looked down on Persephone for her magical trouble always saying, "that is a beautiful tulip, and it sure has brightened my day"

Persephone would scrunch up her little face and say, "but you can't eat a tulip, the farmers will never be able to use my creation, it will just sit there."

Demeter would chuckle softly as she touched her daughters cheek affectionately, "maybe so but there is more to a person then their physical needs, while the farmer might not eat the tulip. He will pluck it and bring it home to his wife, who will smile at the delicate beauty of it. Just as I smile at my little delicate beauty here."

Persephone's exasperation would melt at her mother's words, "then I will make more so he can bring one home every day!"

Demeter would smile with love at her daughter as she continued in her work.

Other times when she would play in the creek with her nymph friends and fall in, Demeter was the first one to pick her up and dry her off, asking "are you okay my darling!"

If Persephone ever scraped her knee Demeter would carry her to their little cottage and sit her on the counter as she cleaned the wound and made a poultice, often humming a sweet lullaby as she did so. Kissing the "bobo" so as to make it all better.

Before her 150th birthday Demeter and Persephone had been inseparable, both working in unison and getting along splendidly. On her 150th birthday Persephone had made the mistake of asking her mother about their relatives, especially about her father who had left a package on their doorstep for her birthday. Demeter had been carful about her words, choosing to portray Olympus as a place that was not nice. Unfortunately Persephone had seen through the lies as Hermes had already told her all about Olympus. As she grew out of her childish ways she longed for adventure and to meet other Olympians, while her
Mother longed for her to remain an innocent child.

Persephone shook he head to clear it of her memories, as she rounded the staircase. Part of her missed the old Demeter, that had been full of love and compassion. She longed to have her mother back, but knew that to truly have her back she would have to let go of her love for Hades and their life together. Her mother while thinking she was in the right would always be set in her ways. Sighing she pushed open the office door.

Happy Mother's Day guys! This is a little off the plot-line, however, I wanted to write something special for today. I also want to point out that Demeter was not always the "evil" mother, in most historical artifacts, the harvest goddess is portrayed as a loving mother holding her daughter on her lap, or crying on the ground at the loss of her child. While my story is not historical accurate, I think that it's is important to not dehumanizing your villain, Demeter is just like any of our parents, trying to do what they think is right for their children.
