The study was as warm and inviting as always as Persephone plopped on the love seat propping her feet on one arm rest as she lounged in the chair. The soft velvet soothing her as she finished recounting her talk with Hestia.

Hades took the seat behind the desk as with a wave of his hand, scrolls upon scrolls of papers appearing on the desk in neat rows.

"She does have a point that fights like these between gods have to stop at some point or else we may have another Trojan war on our hands or at least something akin to the English and French battles."

Persephone floated over a a scroll from the pile as she pulled a quill from its stand on the desk. "I know, I just can't stand how belittling she is, always saying that 'mother knows best'. It's insufferable." Hades didn't respond to that comment as Persephone huffed and burred herself in the scroll, he too poring over the contents of a human life.

Whenever Hades was done with reading a scroll of a souls life and the judges opinion of placement, he would either sign it or cross it out to write a different realm. Then place it in the pile marked for Persephone to read. Persephone would do the same with other scrolls, a  pile accumulating at her feet for Hades. When half of the scrolls were done by each they would switch and read the others work. When one disagreed they would stop and review the case, just as they would in the throne room. The only difference was that the study was quiet and had no protocol, also Hades would snack in the study while on a throne it looked odd to have a mouthful of crackers when you were passing judgment.

They passed a few hours in silence with only a few interruptions when one of them disagreed, although every time Persephone spoke up he could tell that her heart wasn't in the fight as she would concede to his judgments much faster than normal. When around 2 pm according to the grandfather clock in the corner Hades rubbed his eyes and stretched declaring that lunch was needed for more work to be done.

Persephone didn't respond.

"Persephone, my love do you want to go have lunch with Hestia in the garden or stay up here? I can get a shade to bring us the food." Hades then stood as he went to Persephone the telepathic link between them telling him that something was amiss, her end was quite, too quiet. When he reached her he pulled her hand as he bent on one knee glancing over the scroll that was gripped in her hand into her vacant eyes. Her eyes were dead as her hand was ice cold the heat having left her.

"DAMN! I should have realized, Shit."
Hades immediately moved into action as he scooped her up, kicking over the pile of scrolls in his hurry. He magically teleported them to the bedroom as he placed her gently on their bed, lighting the fire with  a though, as he brought heat to his own hands rubbing  her shoulders and her back.

"Persephone, can you hear me nod if you can", nothing. No response came  from her as she slumped a wheezing noise coming from her.

Hades cursed under his breath again for not realizing that she was going to get worse before getting better. He
felt her pulse as she started gasping slightly for breath her body wanting to live but her mind shutting down. Hades growled in a low voice as his dominance came over  the room. "Persephone breath, IN, one two three, Out one to three, long breaths. Again BREATH IN, one two three, OUT, one two three. In the second command Persephone's body responded as she shuddered from the effort, Hades grasped at straws as he felt something on her mind give way, and opening for him to see what was going on.

Lunging with his own thoughts  he entered her mind like a whisper in the wind, molding to her so that she wouldn't block him out again. While Hades physical body rubbed Persephone and commanded her breaths his mental one was lost in a sea of memories as each sight and sound came at him from all sides.

Persephone on an island being dragged by her hair, then it shifted Demeter standing over her and chanting in Latin,... foreign spells. The waves smell of sea water, water in Persephone's lungs as the current was too strong...

The beach again, Demeter's cry of anger, "what we're you thinking you reached child, Poseidon will not help you." ...

Another flash a shift in the memory, the feeling of vines everywhere crawling over her body, the sensation of suffocation as they covered her everywhere growing into her trying to take over. Then it shifted again, she was on the cliff  overlooking the water, tears stained her cheeks as her dress torn and filthy whipped about her, a faint yelling coming from behind. Desperation and fear clouding everything, then the plummet.

Down down down. The wind pulling the air out of her lungs the pain as the water hit her, just as the shock came the memories shifted, the vines coming again to bind her holding her too tightly, so that her arms began to bleed.

The shift came one more time, ending as all of the dreams ended with the cold and the darkness. As a woman's voice came out of the darkness.
