Cassie was holding Bucky's hand as they walked through the docks. The ship looked amazing with all its lights on at 4am and there were probably about a hundred men waiting to board the ship and saying goodbye to their family and friends.

Bucky sighed and looked at her. "I'm gonna be okay." He assured her for the millionth time.

"Right." Cassie nodded, looking around but she didn't sound sure in the least.

Bucky cupped her face in his hands. "Doll, you gotta trust me. I'm gonna leave and then in 10 months, I'm gonna meet you right back here on this dock."

He kissed her forehead as tears filled her eyes. "I'm gonna miss you." She told him and her voice cracked.

They hugged tightly and tears filled his eyes too. "Yeah, I'll miss you too, Cass."

He began to walk away before stopping suddenly and Cassie grew confused before he turned around and walked right towards her, cupping her face in his hands again and kissed her. She smiled into it and held onto his waist.

A few of Bucky's soldier friends started whistling in amusement from where they were standing, and a few poking their heads out the windows.

"10 months Bucky, I swear to god." She yelled with a smile as he walked off.

He saluted her. "Yes ma'am!"

Cassie watched as he boarded the ship and she thought that would be the last until he poked his head through one of the windows and began waving. She waved back until one of Bucky's friends who had yet to board came and picked her up, dragging her over to the ship.

"C'mon Cassie," They all shouted. "You need to give him a real soldier goodbye!"

As they lifted her by her feet, Bucky grabbed onto her arms from above and pulled her up so he could kiss her. They all laughed as multiple girls were doing this, saying bye to their boys. What Cassie didn't know was that Bonnie, who had come to say goodbye to her brother, had taken a photo of it as she smiled.

"10 months?"

"10 months."

A couple of weeks had, once again, gone by and Cassie didn't think she could stand it any more. The amount of wounds the men would return with from abroad made her sick and the boys on camp were way too cocky for their own good.

"You got any family at home?" Cassie asked one of the injured men softly. Asking them questions was how she distracted them from the pain.

"Uh," The man swallowed as she bandaged up his arm. "I got a wife, she was expecting with our first when I left. I have a picture of him. He's 1 and I've never even met him."

"I'm sure he'd be very happy to meet you. Proud to say his dad fought in the war," Cassie smiled. "He'll probably tell you your scars look awesome."

He laughed. "Imagine that."

"Alright," Cassie wiped her hands. "You're good to go. There's a train leaving in the morning back to Rhode Island. Good luck meeting your son."

He smiled, thanked her and walked out so Cassie returned to cleaning up the work area when Millie, a young nurse, joined in helping.

"How do you do it Cass?" She asked.

"Do what?"

"Deal with all of this," She replied. "Seeing these men like this...it makes me feel sick to my stomach."
