"Bucky!" Steve shouted as he climbed onto the wall of the train that had been blasted out. And Bucky was hanging off the edge. Steve moved as carefully across the thin wall to reach his friend who was barely hanging on. "Hang on!"

Bucky knew in his mind that he wasn't going to make it. He knew Steve wasn't going to reach him. With his last strength, Bucky reached into his pocket and pulled out a letter which he passed too Steve.

"Take the letter," Bucky shouted. "Give it to Cassie! Tell her I love her jerk!"

Within seconds, the rail Bucky was holding onto snapped and Bucky fell down the cliff, towards his death. Steve held onto the letter as he became disappointed in himself because he let his best friend die. Cassie's going to be devastated, he thought.

Steve stormed to the front of the train, grabbed Zola and got off at their stop point. They all headed back to base in silence as Steve dreaded going to see his other best friend.

The past two days had been normal on base, soldiers coming in and out, and the circle kept going. Cassie stayed in the labs most days because she didn't have Bucky there to entertain her. What worried her most though was that they were supposed to be back by now, and she had gotten onto the habit of touching Bucky's dog tags whenever she was worried. And she was doing that right now.

As she was cleaning one of the hospital beds, the Colonel came to see her, "Captain Rogers needs to speak to you." He told her solemnly.

Cassie walked through the other set of doors that led to the Colonels office and only Steve was in there, with tears in his eyes and a drink in his hand. Bucky was nowhere to be seen.

Cassie didn't want what she was thinking to be true, "Steve?"

Steve didn't say anything, he just looked at her with pity. She didn't say anything either. Instead she just asked, "How?"

Steve didn't look her in the eye, "He fell off the train, couple thousand feet at most. He told me to give this to you."

He handed her the letter which she took with shaking hands. Cassie left the office and headed straight to her room, she didn't want to open it yet. Cassie couldn't even handle the pain now, she wasn't sure if she could read a letter written by him.

Cassie cried for days, she didn't come out of her room either. She wasn't eating or sleeping, there was a pile of blood bags just sitting outside her room that Peggy and Steve left there every day.

One day people she didn't expect to come, came knocking on the door. Lexi Branson and Millie the nurse. The pair looked at her in pity then sat on the edge of her bed.

"Cass?" Lexi asked softly. "Colonel Phillips called us in, he said you're not eating or sleeping."

It was Millie's turn to talk, "Please just eat something Cassie, everyone out there is so worried."

Cassie hadn't even thought about it that way, she had been so caught up with herself that she had forgotten about others. She had forgotten about Steve.

"Oh my god, I am so sorry." Cassie said as she tried to sit up, but from the lack of blood, it was very painful.

"Don't worry. It's not your fault," Millie told her. "I just don't like seeing you like this, not having any blood. Especially when you were the one to teach me control."

"Come on, let's get you dressed. You have a meeting with the others." Lexi told her. The girls helped her get dressed then as they walked through the base, Cassie linked arms with Lexi and rested her head on Lexi's shoulder while Millie walked in front.

The two girls left when Steve came up to them, promising to visit her soon.

"Hey," Cassie whispered to him. "I'm sorry, about me-"

"Don't, it's not your fault." He told her.

"It's not yours either."

"Johann Schmidt belongs in a bughouse. He thinks he's a god," Colonel Phillips said, "and he's willing to blow up half the world to prove it. Starting with the USA."

Howard soon walked in and joined the table they were all sat at. "Schmidt's working with powers beyond our capabilities. He gets across the Atlantic, he will wipe out the entire eastern seaboard in an hour." Cassie put down the paper her and Steve were looking at.

"How much time we got?" Gabe asked.

Phillips looked up, "According to my new best friend, just under twenty-four hours."

"Where is he now?" Dum-dum asked.

"Hydra's last base is here," Phillips pointed to the picture he was holding. "In the Alps, 500 ft below the surface."

Cassie took the photos, "So what are we supposed to do? I mean it's not like we can just knock on the front door."

"Why not?" Steve spoke up. "That's exactly what we're going to do."
