Jaxon's mouth went dry. He was to be married in a months time, not just to anyone, but to his best friend. Jaxon's parents had just left the room when his older sister Astrid waked in.

"I know how you're feeling," She whispered as he placed his head on her shoulder. "I felt this exact way when I found out I was getting married."

Jaxon turned to her. "Yes but, this is Cassie we're talking about. My best friend!"

"To be fair, it could've been worse. You could be getting married to a stranger," Astrid pointed out and he nodded in agreement. "Go meet her in the meadows, she will be waiting for you."

The two best friends had been sat in silence for a while, not daring to speak what was on both of their minds.

Cassie hesitated. "Do you think this will work?"

Jaxon thought for a minute. "I do. I think it will because we're best friends. I love you and you love me, it doesn't have to be romantic. Just as long as we stay like this then everything will be fine."

Cassie smiled at him, always grateful for his optimism. She knew it could never be romantic love, Jaxon's biggest secret was that he didn't like girls. Jason had never told anyone that apart from Cassie and she was determined to keep it for life.

All morning, everyone had been fussing about. Cassie was being dressed into a simple white dress that covered her feet at the bottom. Her hair was half up half down with slight curls at the bottom.

Esther walked into the room. "You look absolutely lovely, my dear."

"Thank you mother," Cassie smiled softy. It was soon time for her to be walked down the aisle, she knew it was happening when Mikael walked into the room.

"Come girl," He ordered. "We're ready."

"I can do this," She whispered to herself before linking her father and stepping outside. The ceremony set up was beautiful. It was a warm summers night and where Jaxon was standing there was a small flower arch above his head.

Her father let go of her when she reached the alter and she took Jaxon's hand instead. Soon enough, it was time for the vows. Jaxon went first.

"Cassie Mikaelson, from the first moment I met you, when you were climbing down from that tree, I knew it was going to lead to something bigger. You became my absolute best friend when you punched me in the nose and showed me the meadows behind the trees. I always hoped there would be a day were we could spend the rest of our lives together and here it is. And may I just give a small thank you to Rebekah who took so long to find Cassie that she got bored and found me instead. You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest and most beautiful person I have ever known- and even that is an understatement."

Everyone was crying now, none more so than Cassie herself.

Cassie took a deep breath. "Jaxon Branson, from the day I met you, I knew you were going to be trouble. I knew you were going to be my best friend when you stopped me from apologising for punching you in the nose. I didn't really know how to feel when I found out we were to be married but when I gave it a bit of thought, I thought it was perfect, because you are the other half of me. They say every story has an end but in life, every end is just a new beginning. This is our new beginning."

To celebrate their one year wedding anniversary, Jaxon and Cassie decided to go down to the lake and into the meadows for a day by themselves. Their marriage had been filled with platonic love and laughs, still keeping Jaxon's secret.

The laughs filled the silence as Jaxon kept splashing Cassie with water and Cassie kept smashing food in his face but the two eventually calmed down.

"I think I found someone, like me." Jaxon whispered and Cassie's head shot up.

"What?" She asked giddily.

"One of the new boys who moved to the village last week-"

Jaxon went to continue, but the two heard rustling and movements in the bushes. "I'm going to go check that out." Cassie nodded at Jaxon picked up his sword and set off, having Cassie to wrap up the picnic.

As she was folding the blankets, the Mikaelson girl felt a presence behind her then a hand on her mouth and she was being pulled away and she couldn't stop it. They soon turned a corner and saw Jaxon. 2 of the men that held her, ran at Jaxon but he killed them as the other one kept a tight grip on Cassie with a sword to her neck.

One more immediately came out of nowhere and cut Jaxon deep into his side before the boy could react and he fell to the floor while the 2 remaining men ran off.

"Jaxon!," Cassie yelled and sat down next to him as he laid on the floor. "You're going to be alright."

She knew others would soon be coming for the men had run off in the direction of the village with blood all over them.

"No I won't," He replied, his voice barely above a whisper. Cassie furrowed her eyebrows. "We were meant to be happy, and for a while we were."

"Please-" Cassie's voice broke as a few tears fell. "Please don't leave me. Jaxon, please don't leave me. I need my best friend Jay, come on."

"Don't mourn me forever," Jaxon told her.  "We've had our time, even if it wasn't forever . We had it and we were happy."

They stared at each other for a minute while Cassie continued to cry silently.

"Promise me that you will live your life, promise me you will find love for yourself." He whispered.

She shook her head. "I can't."

"I pray to god that you do."

After those last words, Jaxon's eyes closed shut and his chest stopped moving up and down. Cassie was shocked for a second before she sobbed into his shirt, clinging on to him like she never wanted to let go.

It had been a few minutes of Cassie crying as she sat next to Jaxon's body when her Mother came rushing over, Nik and Astrid not far behind. Esther sat down next to her youngest daughter.

"We have to take his body." Esther whispered to her, but Cassie shook her head.

"I can't leave him," She sobbed, clutching his shirt. "I don't want to let go."

Esther grabbed her hands. "Let go of him. Let go and hold onto me."

And she did. Cassie let go of Jaxon and held onto her mother as she watched his body being carried back to the village.

For the rest of her life, Cassie failed to do the one thing she promised her husband she would do live. Live her life. Instead she spent the next 1000 years, taking others lives from them.

Cassie didn't live.

She died.
