Never in her life did Cassie ever think that she would go on a mission to take down a Hydra base. As they ran out of the woods Cassie and the remaining Howling Commandoes made their way inside. They turned a corner and shot the Hydra agents coming towards them and Cassie ripped out the hearts of the two behind them.
"I'll never get used to seeing that," Gabe laughed.
Cassie turned to them. "I'll never get used to doing it."
More and more Hydra agents came their way. "Cut off one head and two more-!" The hydra soldier was cut off when Phillips shot him.
Phillips reloaded his gun. "Let's go find two more!" When Cassie caught up with Peggy, she just missed Steve, as he ran off to find Schmidt.
"Is it that hard for you two to just kiss already?" Cassie asked, becoming fed up with Peggy and Steve's behaviour.
Peggy just rolled her eyes. "Oh shut up. Come on."
Through the window of where she was looking, Cassie could see Steve running to catch up with a plane and Phillips saw it too. "Come one!" He shouted as Her and Peggy jumped in the back of the car and sped up to catch up to Steve.
"Get in!" Phillips sped the car up and they easily managed to reach the plane.
"Hey!" shouted Cassie and Steve turned to her. "Be safe you idiot!" He smiled at her and mock saluted.
"Keep it steady!" Steve shouted over the noise of then car engine and the plane. Before he could jump out, Peggy grabbed him by his collar and kissed him.
They pulled apart, "go get him," said Peggy and Steve nodded. Steve just about managed to jump onto the wheel of the plane and Phillips made the car stop just as they reached the edge and plane took off.
It wasn't long after they got back to the control station that Steve contacted them. "Come in. This is Captain Rogers. Do you read me?"
Peggy ran over to the speaker. "Steve, is that you? Are you alright?"
"Peggy! Schmidt's dead!"
Cassie ran over, "What about the plane?"
Steve hesitated."That's a little bit tougher to explain."
"Give me you coordinates. I'll find you a safe landing sight." Peggy told him.
There was silence for a minute. "There's not going to be a safe landing. But I can try and force it down."
After Steve said that, Cassie dragged Phillips outside to give the two some privacy, but Cassie still listened in.
"I'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do," she heard Peggy say, her voice cracking slightly.
"There's not enough time. This thing's moving too fast and it's heading for New York. I got to put her in the water." Cassie's heart broke, there was a very high chance that Steve wasn't coming back.
"Please, don't do this. We have time, we can work this out!" said Peggy as her voice broke.
"Right now I'm in the middle of nowhere. If I wait any longer, a lot of people are going to die," Steve told them. "Peggy, this is my choice." Peggy didn't say anything back.
"Peggy?"
"I'm here."
"I'm going to need a rain check on that dance."
They had all planned a double date.
"All right," Peggy's voice broke again. "A week next Saturday, at the Stork club."
"You got it," Steve said with a shaky voice.
"8:00 on the dot. Don't you dare be late. Understood?"
"You know, I still don't know how to dance." He had obviously not listened when Cassie taught him and she chuckled.
"I'll show you how. Just be there."
"We'll have the band play something slow. I'd hate to step on your..."
Steve's voice was cut off. Cassie slid down the wall to sit on the floor as she cried silent tears. In the background she could hear Peggy shouting Steve's name as if he was still there, but he wasn't.
Both of her boys were gone.

They had won the war. It was over, and they were all so very thankful. But they had lost so much too. As everyone was packing up the SSR, Phillips made his way over to Cassie with a file in his hand and gave it to her. When she opening in, she saw a picture of her and Bucky that someone had taken of them.
She smiled sadly as she put the picture bag in and the file in her bag. Cassie walked outside to see men, women and children all celebrating and mourning their losses. It was later on at night, after she'd had a celebratory drink with fiends, that she got a cab down to the cemetery.
It took Cassie ten minutes to find Bucky's grave and when she did, she sat there in silence for a few minutes.
"We did it. We won, but no one is acknowledging what we lost," said Cassie to an empty grave. "I don't know how I'm supposed to carry on. My family is...broken. You and Steve are gone. I have nothing left."
"Thinking about it, I should probably open your letter..." Cassie stopped when she heard rustling from the bushes and saw a shadow. "Who's there?" No answer. "I asked-" Cassie was cut off again when someone shot three vervain darts at her and she fell unconscious.
When Cassie woke up, she was blinded by the lights above her, and she saw a short man in the corner.
"Hello. I am Dr Zola," He introduced himself with a wicked grin. "Am I correct in thinking you know Sergeant Barnes?"
"What?" Cassie asked.
Although she was very weak, Cassie still managed to turn her head. Tears filled her eyes when she saw Bucky, he ran towards her and kissed her forehead
"You're alive!" She cried and he hugged her.
"Yeah, I'm here. I'm here doll." When he pulled away she looked at all the doctors.
"What am I doing here?" Cassie growled at them.
"You two, are our new test subjects. Wipe their memories then put them on ice."

Back in Brooklyn, right in front of Bucky's grave, lay dog tags and a letter. The dog tags were received by Klaus' minions and given to him. However, the letter? Well, the letter ended up in the hands of the King of New Orleans himself.
