5.3

Cassie watched from the floor as Steve and Lee crept into the apartment by the window. They relaxed when they looked around the corner and saw Cassie and Nick.

"I don't remember giving you two keys." Steve stated.

Cassie sighed. "You really think we'd need one?" She asked rhetorically. 

Fury sat up slightly. "My wife kicked me out." He told them.

"Didn't know you were married." Lee replied, leaning her back against the wall and crossing her arms.

Fury nodded. "There's a lot of things you don't know about me."

"I know Nick, that's the problem," Steve sighed but both soldiers got a shock when they saw Fury's beat up face. Cassie sat up slightly and turned the light back off and fury started typing on his phone.

Ears everywhere.

"I'm sorry to have to do this but I had no place else to crash," Fury told them all.

Shield compromised.

Lee looked at the phone. "Who else knows about your wife?" She asked, covering up her real question.

Us four.

Nick grunted as he and Cassie stood up. "Just...my friends."

Lee and Steve looked at each other. "Is that what we are?" They both asked.

Cassie looked at them. "I think that's up to you, he doesn't really do friends."

Before anyone could reply, two bangs were heard and she turned and saw Nick on the floor covered in blood after being shot twice. She went to run over and heal him but Cassie was shot herself before she could.

Cassie soon realised five vervain needles had been shot in her chest and with that, she blacked out on the floor not realising what was happening.

It had been a day now since Fury was pronounced dead in the hospital after the shooting and Nat had dragged Cassie to the hospital again, claiming Steve and Lee had left something in the vending machine.

They had. It was the USB stick that had all the downloaded Shield data from the ship that was hijacked by pirates. Though, in order to get it, they had to buy two strawberry bubblegum packets.

Steve and Lee pushed them into an empty room when they found the vending machine empty and the two spies blowing bubbles with their gum.

"Where is it?" Steve asked, slamming Cassie against the wall.

"Safe." She answered.

He looked at her and Nat. "Do better."

"Where did you get it?" Nat intervened as Cassie pushed Steve away slightly.

"Why would we tell you?" Lee retaliated in irritation.

Nat and Cassie looked at each other before realising. "Fury gave it to you," The blonde realised. "Why?"

"What's on it?"

"I don't know." Nat answered honestly.

Lee huffed. "Stop lying!" She whisper yelled at them.

Nat looked them both up and down. "We only act like we know everything, Prince." She told the woman.

"I bet you knew Fury hired the pirates didn't you?" Steve intervened quickly.

The spies hesitated. "Well it makes sense," Nat agreed. "The ship was dirty, Fury needed a way in, so do you."

Lee slammed the door. "We're not gonna ask you again." Steve told them both angrily.

"I know who killed Fury," Cassie interrupted surprising everyone, not including Nat. "Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists. The ones that do call him The Winter Soldier. He and his partner, The Warrior, have been credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last 50 years."

"Wait, The Warrior?" Lee asked. "As in..."

"Me." Cassie whispered in a shaky voice.

"So he's a ghost story." Steve deduced, stepping back slightly.

Nat hesitated. "5 years ago I was escorting a nuclear engineer out of Iran. Somebody shot out my tires near Odessa. We lost control, went straight over a cliff, I pulled us out," She explained. "But the Winter Soldier was there. I was covering my engineer so he shot him straight through me." Nat lifted up her shirt to show a bullet scar. "Soviet slug. No rifling. Bye bye bikinis."

"Yeah, I bet you look terrible in them now." Lee replied sarcastically.

Cassie looked between the two soldiers. "Going after him is a dead end," She explained. "I know, I've tried. Like you said. He's a ghost story."

Steve took the USB off Nat. "Well lets find out what the ghost wants."

a/n: sorry this is short but I had to get this one out but I have a feeling some people won't like me at the end of this act.

also bc I went to see The Marvels yesterday and I acc thought it was really good but some of my guy friends didn't think so but dw I had a good talk with them and put them in their place.
