The room was silent as Cassie took some of Steve's blood for future use of an attempt to recreate the serum, everyone was still mourning the death of Dr Erskine.

"Think you got enough?" Steve asked as he rolled his sleeve down when Cassie pulled out the needle.

"Any hope of reproducing the program is locked in your genetic code," Cassie explained. "But without Dr Erskine it could take years."

Steve sighed and stood next to Peggy, "He deserved more than this."

"If it could work only once, he'd be proud it was you," Peggy answered honestly.

They all went downstairs to where the Colonel was with the Senator explaining HYDRA and Schmidt's intentions.

"Hydra is the Nazi deep-science division," Peggy told the senator. "It's led by Johann Schmidt."

"But he has much bigger ambitions." Cassie added on.

Colonel Phillips turned back to the Senator, "Hydra's practically a cult. They worship Schmidt, they think he's invincible."

"So what're you going to do about it?" The Senator asked cheekily and Cassie was going to tell him off before Colonel Phillips gave her a look that said 'don't even think about it.'

"I spoke to the president this morning," Phillips started walking as he spoke. "As of today the SSR is being re-tasked."

Cassie's eyebrows furrowed, "Colonel?"

"We are taking the fight to Hydra," Phillips explained to the two women. "Pack your bags, Carter, Mikaels. You too Stark! We're flying to London tonight."

Steve quickly turned to the Colonel, "Sir? If you're going after Schmidt, I want in."

"You're an experiment," Phillips replied sharply. "You're going to Alamogordo."

"The serum worked!" Steve said as he looked around helplessly.

"I asked fo an army and all I got was you," Phillips said coldly. "You are not enough." And with that, he walked off.

The senator went up to Steve and Cassie was worried about what he would say, "With all due respect to the Colonel, I think we may be missing the point. I've seen you in action Steve. More importantly, the country's seen it. Paper."

The newspaper headline said; 'Nazi's in New York. Mystery man saves child.'

"The enlistment lines have been around the block since your picture hit the news stands. You don't take a soldier, a symbol like that and hide him in a lab. Son, do you want to serve your country on the most important battlefield of the war?"

Don't say yes, Cassie thought.                                                             

"Sir, that's all I want." 

God damn it Steve  

The senator held out his hand for Steve to shake, "Then congratulations, you just got promoted."

Cassie turned to Peggy, "This is bad."

Cassie watched for months as her best friend toured the country and was turned into one of the Senators 'puppets', she couldn't count how many times he'd knocked out a fake Hitler or how many times he's sung that song. He should be on the battlefield by now, this isn't what Erskine had planned.

Right now she was panicking because she had gotten the news that the some of the 107th division had been captured by Hydra, and Colonel Phillips had declared most of them dead, including Bucky.
