At Least I Tried

Destiny is such a funny thing. Nagmamadali din akong umalis noon at ngayon, nagmamadali ulit ako para bumalik.

"Wait, where will we be staying?" Naguguluhan kong tanong habang nag-eempake ng maleta na nakapatong sa kama. Ruce was standing outside my room with my door open.

"Lolo said that Rom Ashenbert will fix it for us." Ruce boredly said.

Nabitawan ko ang mga hawak ko. Malaki ang mga matang nilingon ko si Ruce. "WHAT?! E 'di alam nilang pupunta tayo? Malalaman niya!"

"Ano naman? Siya naman ang pinunta mo 'di ba?"

"Ruce, I'm nervous! I can't! Kanina lang sinabi ni Lolo tapos pupunta agad tayo bukas! I can't handle the anxiety!" Akala ko naman... Hindi na gagamitin ni Lolo ang koneksiyon niya! But who am I kidding?

Gosh! After leaving their son in a hurry without even bidding goodbye to them as well... Tapos ngayon, aasikasuhin ulit nila ako with Ruce as an excess baggage? Nakakahiya!

"Kasama mo naman ako..." He said as if it was the answer to all my problems. "I'll protect you."

"You can't protect me from my anxiety!"

"What can I do to ease it then?" Nakahalukipkip niyang sabi.

I know he's concerned but the way he speaks and acts sometimes contradicts which makes him vulnerable to be misunderstood.

"Honestly, you have to work with the way you speak and act together. People may misunderstand you."

"I don't care."

"What if you meet someone you like and she misunderstands you and proceeds to dump you?" I raised a brow.

Saglit siyang natigilan. "I won't meet one."

"You're not sure." Nang-aasar kong kontra.

"If she likes me, she'll understand me."

"Baka mapagod siya at iwan ka pa rin."

"Goodness, Ruby! Why are you so negative?" Naiistress niyang sabi.

I shrugged and proceeded to do my task again after getting my sanity back from the shock with the help of teasing Ruce. "Just wondering."

"What if ayaw na sa 'yo ni Xenon?"

Muli kong naibagsak ang mga hawak kong kakakuha ko pa lang.

I heard Ruce's evil laugh behind me and I glared at him. "That was foul!"

"Now you know how it feels."

"But mine is real and happening now. Yours is just a wonder for now!"

"But still the same context."

I shook my head at hindi na siya pinansin pa. "Go away. This conversation is stupid."

"Ego hurt?"

"Want me to hurt you then?" Balik kong sagot.

"Nag-aaway na naman kayo? Paano na kayong dalawa sa isla? Baka wala pang isang araw, malaman kong may naitulak sa dagat?" Lolo suddenly popped out of nowhere.

I frowned more.

"I'm pretty sure I'll be the one pushing Ruce."

"Not so sure, Ruby. I'll push you first."

Nakita kong napahawak sa sentido si Lolo. My eyes met Ruce's and we both chuckled lowly.

"Don't worry Lolo, I'll endure the urge to push him off. I need a personal bodyguard... Other than the others."
