Remember this story is set in Florida, not Japan, which is why they don't use last names and they use dollars and crap
Wait was he trying to confess to me?! Did he want to kiss me?! Hajime suddenly thought. It was two days after the dance and he was in the middle of a math test, but he was letting his mind wander for a bit. And his mind kept going back to the dance. He was itching to know what Nagito was going to tell him. It was prodding at his brain so much that Hajime had almost taken Nagito aside and demanded he finish what he was saying several times. But that wasn't how Hajime wanted to go about this. He wanted to just casually bring it up in conversation, so Nagito didn't feel like Hajime was pressuring him into anything.
Hajime shook his head clear. He shouldn't be thinking about that. He had a math test to do. But Hajime couldn't focus on it for the life of him. What was it over again? He didn't even know. He squinted at the paper in front of him and saw the equation he was supposed to solve. Find the values of x: 2x^2 + 6x + 4 What?! The hell did that mean?
Hajime banged his head on the desk. He was hopeless. He was a goner. How was he supposed to take down the School with Nagito when he couldn't even do a simple math equation?
Then Hajime felt a small tap on his left arm. Hajime glanced over to see who tapped him. He saw Nagito, and he looked to be very absorbed with the work he was doing, but his entire paper was exposed, right in Hajime's line of view. Hajime was confused. What did Nagito want? Nagito looked up from his paper and glanced at Hajime to see if he had gotten Hajimes attention, which he had. Nagito checked to make sure the teacher wasn't looking, then looked back at Hajime and gestured to his paper. Hajime was still confused when he realized, oh! He wants me to copy him! That made sense.
Hajime nodded, glanced at Nagito's paper, and quickly started scribbling down his answers. The two boys went at this for the rest of the math test. Hajime would write down Nagito's answers, and when the teacher would look up, Hajime would be back to staring at his own paper while Nagito would quickly solve the next few problems. When the teacher looked away, Hajime was back to furiously writing down Nagito's answers. Their system worked so well, Hajime was finished with his test 10 minutes early! Hajime leaned back and relaxed in his chair, confident that he got at least a B.
Soon the bell rang and students started gathering up their things. "Remember!" The teacher shouted after the students who had already run out of the classroom. "Today is the flu clinic so go to the gym!"
"Yeah yeah," Hajime muttered to himself as he slung his backpack over his shoulder. He didn't really care about the flu clinic. It was just a shot. Nothing more. Nagito and Hajime walked out of the classroom together, Hajime thanking Nagito over and over again. "Seriously thank you so much! If you hadn't have done that I definitely would have failed the test! You're a lifesaver man!"
"It was nothing," Nagito chuckled to himself kind of embarrassed. "I saw you struggling so I decided I would assist you."
"I kind of can't believe we pulled it off!" Hajime laughed. "And don't worry, I got some wrong on purpose so she wouldn't know." Nagito nodded. The penalty for cheating was detention, and even though detention wasn't bad, Hajime didn't want himself or Nagito to experience it.
As they made it to the gym Nagito gave Hajime a confused look. "But I have French next," he said. "Why are we here?" Hajime had no idea why Nagito was taking French even though he was already fluent in the language.
"Huh, oh, it's just the flu clinic. They have one every year."
"What's a flu clinic?" Hajime was about to ask Nagito how he didn't know that when he remembered Nagito had never gone to a normal school before. Hajime almost always kept forgetting that.
