Hajime made Max wait for Nagito. They waited anxiously for five minutes. Max was getting antsy. "Spiky boy, I have to get these guys out of here."

"Spiky boy?! Ugh, never mind. I know, I know, but just a bit longer?"

"I don't think we can wait," Max bit her nails in worry. "Nagito instructed you to leave, so you have to."

"I don't have to do anything he says," Hajime huffed. If Nagito was in danger, Hajime was going to go after him. Max said nothing, just thought for a bit. Then, she finally said, "I'm leaving, spiky boy. Come if you want, but these guys need me." Then, she stepped into the elevator and waited for him to get on. Hajime made no move to get on. Max shrugged, pressed a button, and waved as the elevator doors closed.

Hajime spun around and ran in the direction Nagito flew. He knew Nagito was probably going to be furious with him, but if Nagito was in danger, Hajime would do anything to help. Nagito had saved his life, now it was time for Hajime to return the favor.

Hajime heard voices ahead. Screaming. Screaming was never good. Hajime ran as fast as his legs could take him and crashed into quite a sight. On the left, two guards were holding Nagito back as he was violently flapping and kicking, trying to get away. Truman was standing in the middle, actively shaking his head at Nagito. And on the right, there was Jane, getting mercilessly beaten up by a bunch of guards.

"No!" Hajime yelled without thinking. He ran towards his mother and tried to pull a guard off. "Leave! My! Mom! Alone!!" He screeched. But Hajime wasn't strong enough to inflict any kind of pain on the hefty guard, and the guard easily threw Hajime off.

"Hajime?!" Hajime heard a worried voice say. Hajime guiltily turned to face Nagito. Nagito had a horrified expression on his face as he tried getting away again. The guards surrounding Jane suddenly turned their attention towards Hajime and started heading in his direction. Hajime let out a choked squeal and tried crawling away.

"Look where love gets you, fifty-five," Truman said in the background of all of this. "You have to watch the ones you care for get hurt over and over again. Wouldn't you rather feel nothing so this doesn't bother you?" He gestured to Jane and Hajime. That was such a sick and twisted thing to say!

"Don't listen to him Nagito!" Hajime screamed, but he was currently being surrounded by a ton of scary-looking guards.

"Children must listen to their parents," Truman scolded. Parents? What was Truman implying? "Nagito? So that was the name your new owners gave you?" Truman asked.

"It's a name I gave myself, dipstick. And they aren't owners, they're my family! More family than you'll ever be!" Nagito hissed. "I love them more than anything! I don't need to listen to a word you say!"

"Your defiance is getting tiring," Truman sighed. "You need to learn to cooperate or people will get seriously hurt. I suppose I'll teach that lesson now." Then he gestured to Hajime. Hajime had a very bad feeling about this. He quickly got to his feet, ready to fight, when a guard grabbed his shoulders from behind. Hajime gave a frightened yell as a guard approached him and started to wind up for a very painful-looking blow.

"S-stop!" Nagito said, fear tainting his voice. "Don't h-hurt him! Please! I'll be good I promise! I'll never try to escape again just please don't drag them into this!" Nagito pleaded. Hajime had never heard Nagito beg like that, ever. Hajime didn't even think it was possible.

"That's more like it," Truman purred. "Unfortunately, my mind is already made up." The last thing Hajime heard was Nagito's wail of despair before Hajime had the lights knocked out of him. Hajime sunk to the ground. He was out cold.
