I'm turning this chapter into Kakegurui and there is no stopping me

Nagito was practically bouncing with excitement. Tonight was the night of the dance. Their small friend group had been talking about it all week. Neither Kazuichi nor Chiaki ended up getting dates, so they ended up going with each other, platonically of course. Fuyuhiko got a date with Peko, which he was quite embarrassed to express to the group, Sonia was going with Gundham Tanaka, a kid who Nagito had science with, and Hajime and Nagito were going together, which of course Kazuichi would not shut up about. But no matter. Nagito was excited to be going to the dance with Hajime. Maybe, just maybe, Nagito could confess his feelings to Hajime.

Nagito had been keeping his feelings about Hajime secret from everyone, even himself. He didn't want to ruin his ability to stay with Hajime and Jane just because he liked Hajime romantically. But recently, a month after Hajime and Jane had so graciously taken him in, Nagito was starting to really realize how he felt about Hajime. He liked the spiky-haired boy, a lot. His kindness, his determination, his stupidity, his looks, everything about Hajime, Nagito was head over heels for. Nagito just hoped that the dance would spare him and Hajime a moment alone so Nagito could do it without Kazuichi looming over his shoulder.

Now, Nagito was currently getting ready. He had put on the pink suit (he wasn't sure how he was going to survive the entire dance with his wings pressed this tightly against his back), and had attempted at putting eyeliner on, but he had just smudged it so he scrapped that idea. Now he was doing as Hajime recommended and sliding his hair into a ponytail. He studied himself in the mirror and decided that this was as good as his appearance was going to get, and he left his room.

He walked upstairs to greet Hajime and Jane. Jane was fussing over Hajime's suit while Hajime was looking extremely embarrassed. Nagito chuckled to make his presence known. He wondered what that felt like. Having a mother trying to hurriedly fix little things about your appearance.

Jane and Hajime glanced over at Nagito. Jane immediately started gushing about how handsome he was, while Hajime just stared at Nagito. Nagito shifted his weight a bit as Hajime's staring for a bit creepy until Hajime finally said, "You... you look... less skinny." Nagito could see the panic on Hajime's face, but Nagito just laughed. "I guess you could say I've gained more weight." Hajime wasn't wrong. Nagito was still a skinny twig but at least he wasn't the skeleton he was when he first arrived.

"Y-yeah..." Hajime laughed awkwardly. Then he glanced at his phone. "Ah, Kaz is here." Kazuichi had offered to take Hajime, Nagito, and Chiaki to the dance. Sonia was going with Gundham (to Kazuichi's dismay) and Fuyuhiko wanted to drive Peko alone because "I don't want you assholes to make fun of me in front of her."

Jane gave the boys one last send off and they met Kazuichi at his car. "Hey, guys! Lookin fine as always!" Kazuichi chirped as Nagito and Hajime climbed into the backseat. "I have a couple of rules," Kazuichi said. "One, DO NOT GET DIRT IN MY CAR. And two, no making out in the backseat." Both boys blushed and Hajime immediately tried changing the subject. "Nice car," he commented as he clicked his seatbelt into place.

"Why thank you!" Kazuichi gushed. "I worked on it all by myself. Well, my dad helped a little, but I did most of it! The engine, the wheels, the radio..." Kazuichi kept bragging about his car the entire drive to the high school. Hajime looked bored out of his mind, but Nagito was interested. He read a book about cars once, so he happily chatted with Kazuichi about his car. Nagito found it funny he knew a lot about random things, but nothing about being social.

They finally arrived at the dance and hopped out of the car. They walked up to the school, where Sonia and Fuyuhiko were waiting for them with their dates. They all met up and headed inside. The dance was being held inside the school cafeteria. Nagito almost barely recognized the cafeteria, it was decorated head to toe in a multitude of different colors.
