Hermione's Girl Crush

Part 21: Lunch in the courtyard

Hermione went about her day as she normally did. she attended class and walked the halls with her friends. Often she was bothered by Ron or whispering about some sort of drama with Ginny. It was quite a normal day for her, she almost forgot about the happenings of the night prior.

It was soon time for lunch and Hermione joined her friends in the great hall. They all sit at the Gryffindor table eating lunch. Ron stuffed a sandwich in his mouth,

"Ron, do you do anything other than eat?" Hermione looked at Ron in disgust and laughed slightly.

"Yea..." Ron's voice was muffled as he spoke with food in his mouth and shrugged.

"Like what?" Hermione questioned raising an eyebrow. Ron swallowed his food and thought before stammering out,

"...G-Girls?" He shrugged again. Everyone hesitated a moment holding back laughter. They all looked at each other and burst out laughing. Seamus fell off the back of his seat, Ginny spit out her drink, Dean and Harry both smacked the table as they gasped for air and laughed. Tears streamed down everyone's faces as they all laughed. Ron looked quite confused as to what was so funny,

"...What?" He had just taken another bite and spoke with the food in his mouth. Everyone tried to calm themselves, Harry slapped his hand on Ron's back. He tried to speak, but could not through his remaining laughter,

"Let's just move on," Ginny said, her laughter calming greatly, "Anyone want to head to the courtyard, we still have some time before class," Ginny looked at everyone as they all collectively agreed and stood.

As their small group made their way out of the great hall Hermione caught the eye of Lilith who sat at the Ravenclaw table speaking with a few people she usually hung out with. They were just her teammates and some Hufflepuff girls.

Hermione quickly turned to face forward and walked a little faster. She ran up next to Ginny and turned to her,

"So, anything new?" She tried to sound interested in some kind of gossip. Ginny smiled and began to talk,

"Well, nothing too crazy just some people have been talking about the rumors of a dance coming up and all this drama with who is going to be taking who," Ginny paused and Hermione nodded, ginny continued, "A lot of people are concerned on who Harry is brining, my bet is on Cho. Ron will probably wait too long to ask someone and end up with Lavender Brown or someone like that. Some people are placing bets on Draco asking someone out and when she says no he'll go and complain to his father," Ginny laughed and Hermione joined in. When Ginny had finished the group had reached the courtyard.

Small groups of people hung out on the edges of the courtyard, some were just chatting and others were reading on the grass. Hermione and the group made their way to a small spot by a tree next to which was a bench. They all sat around. Ginny and Hermione sat on the stone bench, Dean and Seamus stood by the tree to Hermione's left, Ron sat on the grass next to Harry.

They continued to chat for a short while when Ginny waved. Luna was walking by with some strange-looking glasses on. She looked at the group and waved but did not walk closer. She waved for an awkwardly long amount of time before Ginny motioned for her to join them, she then made her way over and sat on the grass next to the stone bench.

They all continued to chat, now with Luna with them. She just barely leaned against Ginny's leg, but it was nothing noticeable. Hermione was laughing and smiling with her friends when out of the corner of her eye she saw Lilith and her group of friends made their way to the courtyard.

Lilith was laughing and smiling as she had one of the Hufflepuff girls on her back as they ran from two of her teammates one of them on the back of the other. They all ran through the courtyard before they collapsed onto the grass. Lilith lay on her back laughing breathlessly as she turned over to face the Hufflepuff she was carrying.

Lilith now faced Hermione. They both locked eyes for a moment, to Hermione it felt like an eternity. Hermione abruptly stood and pulled her bag over her shoulder,

"Shoot, guys, I'm sorry I've got to go. I have to go check something at the Library." Before the rest of the group could respond Hermione ran off towards the library.
