The sound of a muffled alarm goes off by my head. It causes my eyes to blink open and adjust to my surroundings. Laying down in a bed that I wasn't familiar with, it took me a second to realize that I wasn't at home. I was at Lydia's parents' house.
I recognize that my arm is draped over her hip as she sleeps facing me. Between us, Daisy sleeps soundly, protected by the both of our bodies.
I take my hand off of Lydia and grab my phone that was tucked under the pillow to muffle the sound of the alarm. It's 5:30 in the morning. I have to leave so I'm out of here before her parents wake up—but I don't want to go.
I tuck my phone into the pocket of my jeans that I had slept in. I'm still sore from last night and everything that happened, my head hurts and my eyes hurt to keep open.
I have a weird feeling—because the Phantoms have a set night for us to die...but at least now we know a little more about their plan.
Sitting up, I rub my extremely overtired eyes. I peer down at Lydia and Daisy, the both of them fast asleep. Their faces look the same when they're sleeping...the relaxed features being almost uncanny to each other apart from the fact that Lydia's were more defined and matured.
Gently, I bring my hand to Lydia's face and tuck her hair behind her ear, admiring her for a moment before I had to sneak out of here. Usually, I'd smile to myself while taking in her beauty, but it's different this time. It hurts me that someone so beautiful is being put through so much ugliness and pain.
As my fingertips brush her face, she takes in a sharper inhale through her nose and her hips shift on the bed until she eventually lets her eyes flutter open. She sees me, then blinks a few times in clarity.
"I've gotta go, baby." I whisper softly.
She stretches her body a bit while turning onto her back and yawning.
"I'll walk you out." she tells me.
She sits up, grabbing two pillows from her bed and putting them on either side of Daisy's sleeping body. She walks over to her closet and grabs a beige knit sweater, pulling it over her body for warmth. She does that and then turns back to her closet, pulling out one of my black hoodies that I gave her a long time ago.
She turns to me and hands me the thick material. "Wear this. It's cold in the mornings."
I listen, putting the hoodie on and then putting my shoes on. I didn't take my shoes off by the front door in case her parents woke up. I make sure I grab my car keys and put them in my pocket.
She takes the chair out from underneath the doorknob, pulling it back before grabbing two of my fingers with her hand and opening the door.
I was gross and sweaty after everything that happened last night—car sex and the kidnapping. I know Lydia doesn't care about how I look but I could really use a shower.
She very quietly sneaks us downstairs as she holds my hand. She walks us into the kitchen of her parents' house, letting go of my hand briefly to grab a banana from the fruit basket. Then, she goes to the fridge to take out a plastic water bottle that was filled. She walks back to me, holding both items out in her hands.
"Take these." she says in a whispered tone.
"Why? There's food at our house—" I furrow my brows.
"Yeah but you're terrible at feeding yourself breakfast even when I'm at home, so I can't imagine how you are now. Promise me you'll eat and drink this on the drive home?" she urges quietly.
