Two kids are a lot to handle.
Managing a family is not an easy task, and this past week has been especially hard. Harry's been working late, which means I have to rush to get the kids up and to school, go to my own job, and then rush back to pick them up.
He's been getting home right around dinner time, and he's always so tired by the end of the day so we both end up crashing in bed before we get to spend any time together—and then, it's the same cycle the next day. He'll get up at five, kiss me goodbye, and then we'll be apart for the whole day.
What's ironic is that neither of us need to work. Harry's funds from the gang have set us up for life, and he has more than enough money to support us. I'm talking millions and millions of dollars. But, we both wanted to get jobs to set an example for Daisy and Will, and also to fill our days up and obtain a somewhat normal lifestyle.
I love our life...I adore the simplicity of our family and how we live. After all we've been through, this is the life I wanted. So, for that reason, I'm trying to be grateful. It's just hard sometimes.
Both of our children came into our lives unexpectedly, so we didn't really have time to prepare. Harry and I had just gotten back together when I got pregnant with Daisy, and since then we've barely gotten any alone time.
And when we were alone...we were trying not to be murdered.
With Daisy being five now and Will being four, they're both at tender ages where they're learning lessons and growing in certain ways. They need support from their parents for this stuff, and they have that support...but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't exhausting.
I love being a mother, and I wouldn't give it up for the world.
But, I really do think that being a parent is the most challenging job in the world.
Daisy and Will were running around the house as I made dinner, trying to put together an efficient meal while monitoring two wild kids.
"Guys, sit at the table. Supper's ready." I say, my head pounding with exhaustion as I turn off the stove.
The sound of the front door opening sends the kids toward the front porch, knowing which familiar face had entered the house.
I smile to myself as I follow them down the hall, seeing Harry crouched down and hugging both kids tightly as he returns home from a long day.
In his buttoned up shirt and dress pants, he stands up from the embrace and hangs up his coat. He looks up to see me leaning against the wall over the threshold with a smile, happy to see him.
He smiles at me, then looks down at the kids, rubbing the top of Will's head with his hand.
"Go to the table guys. We'll be right there." he says, instructing them before they listen and run off to the dining room.
He steps up to me, a gentle smile on his face as he brings his hands to my cheeks. He places a kiss on my lips, my mind enjoying every millisecond that felt like bliss.
When he pulls back, he keeps my face in his hands.
"Hi." he says quietly.
I smile. "Hi."
I don't know how he manages to look so good after an entire day of working, but he does. Everything from his hair to his scent was perfect.
He lets go of my face and we both walk back down the hall.
