Peter's POV

I felt horrible. Today, it just felt like everything that could go wrong, did. First, I found out that Flash had cheated off of me in the exam last Friday but got it in before me so, of course, I was the one that had to resist it. Then, Flash beat me up and I was the one that got the detention. Then, on top of all of that, MJ broke up with me after I found out that she was cheating on me with some idiot named Will.

Overall, it wasn't a good day.

I had just finished my 2nd tub of ice cream and 8th bar of chocolate when I figured that I should go out on patrol. So, that's exactly what I did.

"Peter, there seems to be a robbery down on the bank on 6th street."
"Thanks Karen. Take me there please?"
"Yes, Peter. I'm sorry about what happened today."
"Thanks Karen."

I had managed to get there just before the police and started to fight the criminals, muttering about my day under my breath while daydreaming. I was muttering quietly, assuming that if I didn't talk too loudly then the robbers wouldn't be able to hear me. Apparently, I had thought wrong.

"Dude, what's the deal? You seem... off today. Sure, you're still doing the job well and all but you would usually have finished everything by now and have been gone," the first robber said, while being webbed up by me with his mouth being the only part of his body that hadn't been webbed.
"Yeah, man. Also, who's Will?" Robber number 2 asked, confused yet concerned.

I groaned. I was fine about talking about things, sure, but not... this. I was hoping to talk about anything but this. I sighed, "he's the guy that my girlfriend cheated on me with."

"Seriously? Why? I mean, I don't like you because I'm a criminal and all but I would never think of doing anything like that to someone like you. You seem like a good person." Criminal #1 replied.

"Uh... thanks?" I was unsure of what to say. Was it a compliment or was he just trying cheer me up?
"The orphanage on 122nd street has been set on fire." Karen alerted me.
I groaned and webbed up Criminal #2. "Seriously? That's the 5th time that something like this has happened this week and it's Wednesday! Geez can't those stupid arsonists give me a break every once in a while? Sorry guys, would love to stay and chat but I really have to go so... see ya. Peace."

{Time Skip}

Today went pretty smoothly after that. Stopped a few robberies, helped some old people cross the street, and saved people from 3 different fires. Seriously, those darn arsonists. Anyway. I was about to call it a night when I got a call-in saying that there was another bad guy trying to destroy the world yada yada. There was this whole big speech about it and everything saying that I had to swing over to Brooklyn or whatever to stop this guy.

So, that's where I went next.

I was still sour about the day so wasn't doing my best. This guy that I was fighting seemed to have noticed because he stopped and asked me how I was. Weird. Whatever, I can take this opportunity to take this guy down or something. This is a good thing Peter. Think positive.

"Today is just one of those sucky days," I started before he cut me off.
"What's his name?"
"E-Excuse me but... w-what?"
"His name. The guy that someone cheated on for. I'm assuming it was a guy, anyway. Sorry if I'm wrong. What's his name so I can beat him up for you, seeing as you won't do it yourself."

I was so confused. Why does he care, I thought. He's the guy that I'm supposed to be stopping from hurting people and he's... being nice to me? What the actual heck! I webbed the guy up and got ready to swing out of there. But, just before I did, I said to him "I should be fine but... uh, thanks? I guess."

I made my way home and walked into the lab. "Hey dad?" I asked into the lab, not knowing where Tony was but knowing that he was in there somewhere.
"Yeah kiddo. What's up."
"The villains were acting really weirdly today. Like, I was upset about the thing with MJ, I texted you about that, and the villains... they were worried about me. Like, they... they cared. Weird, right?"

Tony looked up with a smirk on his face which confused me. Why was he smirking like this? "Yeah, well I do get where they're coming from with this."
"Dad, what are you talking about?"
"Well kid, it's called the Peter Effect. Nobody can resist. Nobody. Not even if they want to."
