LIE 15

AURELIA HEREDIA

"You can't fool us, dear..." Umiling ang isang may edad na babae sa akin. She sipped her wine without breaking her mischievous smile.

Napayuko lang ako at tinitigan ang nakatali kong mga kamay.

Kung kanina ay may ipinadalang bihag sa bahay ko, ngayon ay ako na naman ang pinadalang bihag.

"Let's eat first, shall we?" Ikinumpol naman ng isang lalake ang magkabila niyang kamay sa ibaba ng panga.

I watched all of them one by one as they silently observed me, too. Dalawa silang babae at lalake.

The first man looks cold. I gathered he could be Aidan's father because he exactly looks like all the other Formenteras. Pero ang pangalawang lalake ay mas kalmado at parang walang pakialam.

The woman on my right looks just like a strict mother... while the other one looked like every spoiled child's mother.

"You don't like the food?" The woman on my right watched me with her dead eyes.

Napakurap lang ako habang ang mga kilay ko'y unti-unting nagkasalubong.

How can they be so calm yet still so hostile to me?

"You should eat. You will be here... all night."

They all started eating peacefully. Mas napakunot lang ang noo ko dahil sa pagkalito.

They're going to keep me here all night? For what?

"I'm Amora Heredia. Ako ba ang kailangan ninyo?"

One of the men silently wiped his mouth using a white cloth. "Just the right one."

Napalunok ako sa pwesto. I'm certain they know who I truly am. Pero ang tangi kong magawa ay magsinungaling.

Lies are what can only protect me.

"I want this to be done immediately. What do you want me to do?" I made sure I sounded like I was up for business. Pero sa kaila-ilaliman ng buto ko'y kinakabahan nang sobra.

"Hmm..." The woman with the reddest lipstick I saw raised her brows at me. "Probably kill you."

Bigla silang lahat natigilan dahil sa sinabi ng kasamahan. Ako rin mismo ay mas nanigas sa puwesto... dahil sa katotohanan ay 'di naman ito impossible.

But it would be devastating to know that I died without doing what I've always wanted to do...
