Kept in the dark

Hey readers! :) Just saying that you should check out my awesome friend's book, it's called 'The D-T project' and it's be Whovian_me. It's REALLY good so please try and check it out :) That's all for now, cheers :)

I moved my free hand over to my back, and yes... they were there. I grabbed the edge of one and pulled it to my side.

It hurt a little bit but I just told myself to suck it up.

In the dimming light I could only just it make out, only to be shocked by what I saw. My wings were a deep shade of blue.

I hadn’t ever seen anyone with different coloured wings. I thought that it might have just been the light, but no they were even slightly… glowing if that’s the right word… maybe shimmering would work. All I knew was that it was as clear as day that I was the only angel with blue wings.

I felt really shocked, but what shocked me more was when they changed to a soft shade of yellow, did they change to my mood or something.

When my shock deepened they went even brighter yellow. What the heck was going on?

I looked around to see if anyone was awake, being careful not to wake Nathan in the process.

No one was, and I didn’t bother trying to find the potion guy, so I thought the best thing for me to do was get some sleep. I felt really tired all of a sudden and fell straight back in to the dream of me and Nathan.

I wondered if Nathan made me go back to sleep, who knows what anyone is capable of anymore.

‘Hey beautiful’ Nathan said shocking me slightly. I turned and faced him.

‘Hey… you’ I added with a small smile. I looked around, we were standing in the middle of a beautiful field with lots of trees bordering us, and there was a big river in the distance. There were also flowers of every colour surrounding us.

‘How are you feeling?’ He said snapping me back to attention.

‘Um…’ I thought about the question, how did I feel? I couldn’t feel anything. ‘Um… where are we?’

‘You’re in my dream’ Wait... so I can be in people’s dreams now! This is just too much, why can’t people just explain things BEFORE they do them. What if I don’t want to be in his dream? What if I don’t want to be up here, wherever I am? What if I don’t even want to be an angel?

‘I’m sorry about rushing you in to all of this, it’s just… no one has ever been found the way I found you’

‘What do you mean by that!?’

‘No angel has ever been found out of our land, occasionally you might bump into one on a mission, but… other than that…’

‘I’m really the only one?’ I said sitting down on the soft grass in the process

‘The one and only’

I just sat there confused, I still had so many questions running through my brain, I guess this would be the best time to get some answers.

‘How did I get down there in the first place?’ I asked, my voice tinted with anger.

‘You must have gone over to the edge of the forbidden area and fallen… there aren’t any barriers around there so you must have fallen’

‘How did I survive a fall like that?!’ I asked, gesturing downwards.

‘Angels are a lot tougher than humans, you probably just got a few cuts and maybe a bruise where you landed’

‘Do my parents know what I am?’

‘Um… Well… there’s something else I have to tell you, they don’t know what you are. But when… if you stay here we might have to… wipe their memory of you’

‘So I can’t even have parents now?! What will be taken from me next?!’ I yelled in anger.

‘Well, we could always find your… real parents’ He replied keeping completely calm.

Wait… I can find my real parents… I guess … now that I think about it, it makes sense. My mum, dad, brother and sister all had really light brown hair that even looked blond in the right light. While I had dark brown, almost black hair. They also all had light brown eyes and slightly tanned skin. While my eyes were as blue as  forget-me-nots, and my skin was as pale as a sheet.

‘Do you know who they are?’

‘No…’ disappointment filled me as he said that, I was really eager to meet them.

‘But I’m sure we could get a potion to help’ excitement filled me once again.

‘Could we do that today?!’ I asked with a sudden change of mood. I must just be tired.

‘I’m not sure, we have to ask the… doctor as you would put it. You see, you might have to stay in… hospital for a while because of how you got your wings.’

‘What do you mean?’

‘Most angels get theirs at the age of 5-8 but since you had to wait until you were 16 your skin had already been through the hardening stage. At the age of 5 your skin is still soft, not as soft as humans… but… anyway, the small growths of the wings couldn’t break your skin. But it took the whole wing to break its way through for you. That’s way 8 has always been the cut off age for anyone getting their wings. You being an exception.’ That was when I remembered the colour of my wings.

‘Why do my wings change colour to my mood?’

‘That’s the one question I can’t answer, it might be because you got yours when your older, or you might not have enough control over your emotions to make them white’

‘I have control over my emotions’ I said adding a bit of anger only just loud enough for him to hear.

‘Or… … you might just be special’ He added with a fake smile. He was hiding something from me… I didn’t know how I knew. But I just knew.

It was right then that I felt something on my shoulder, nothing was there when I turned my head to look at it. ‘That was weird’ I thought to myself. Then I heard my name, ‘Myth’ a deep voice from above said.

It took me less than ten seconds to figure out that someone was trying to wake me up from this dream… but was it a dream? I felt like didn’t know anything anymore. I felt like I had been kept in the dark for my whole life.

My whole life was a lie.
