‘Myth?!’ Nathan said turning around at the sound of my voice. ‘Where are you?’
I managed to find some words, ‘here’ I leant forward and grabbed his hand.
‘Uh, what are you doing here? And like… why are you invisible? And… … how much did you hear?’ he said concerned.
‘Uh, I came over when I saw you, … Slight mix-up with a blue sristle and… I heard enough…’, my mouth was completely dry now.
‘Is what you said… true?’ I asked, already knowing the answer.
‘Uh… yeah… ... are you… OK?’
I thought about the question, I had been through more this week than I had in a year. I was coping pretty well, that might have been because I was slipped a potion or something though. Who knows what I’ve been given.
‘Yeah…’ I replied, getting the feeling that things were about to get extremely awkward… especially with all his friends there.
I looked deep into his blue eyes… they got me as giddy as they always did.
‘Umm, guys...’, said Nathan turning around to face his friends. ‘This is Lyra’
Assorted hi’s and hello’s sounded throughout the group of six.
‘Lyra?’ I whispered in Nathans ear.
His eyes opened up a little wider, ‘oh’, he turned to face me then whispered into my cheek, ‘Lyra was your name before you left us’.
Oh…
‘… What are you doing out of hospital?’
‘I came out to see the fountain’, I said, my voice a little shaken.
‘Yeah, beautiful isn’t it’ Nathan said obviously trying to change the topic as soon as possible.
‘… You want to know something cool about that fountain?’ he turned his head towards me, his eyes flicked around a little. He was probably trying to remember how tall I was so he could find my face.
He settled for a place around my nose, which I thought was a little cute.
I lifted his head a bit so he was looking at my eyes and he put a little shy smirk on his face.
‘Yeah’ I said.
‘When you scoop the water in your hand…’
‘Mmhmm’
‘… You can see a snippet of your future’
‘Really?’
‘Yeah’ He said with a small smile ‘Come on, let’s try it’. He pulled me by the waist of my robe. I think it was so that we didn’t spark again and make a scene.
‘Go ahead’ he said as we stared down at the glowing fountain. I looked at it unsurely.
‘I’ll go first then’, he scooped up some of the glowing water into his hands and looked deep into them. It looked like he was trying to read something.
He looked up after a minute or so. ‘What happened?’ I asked, wonder written all over my face.
‘Not much… yeah… sometimes it can be important or interesting, but sometimes it can be you eating a hamburger’
‘Oh’ I said a little disappointed.
‘Why don’t you give it a go now?’
I attentively placed my hand under the water and scooped up the lukewarm feeling it gave me. I looked deep into the palm of my hand.
There was Nathan at my school talking with someone; they were facing the wrong way though. But when the person walked off a beam of light came down on Nathan, he looked up and smiled but then flew straight up.
That’s when everything went fuzzy.
I looked up at Nathan, ‘what does this have to do with my future?’
‘What happened?’
‘You were at school and then a beam of light shined down and you flew off’
‘That’s sounds like me completing my mission... ‘
‘How can I read my own?’
‘Umm, well this has never happened before… maybe it happens if you focus on someone a lot… but… I guess you could try focusing on yourself more’
I’ve never heard anyone say that before. I thought with a little giggle.
‘Umm, Ok I’ll try that’
It was at that moment that everyone I’ve ever met just decided to pop into my head, you know how it does.
But then my mum came into my head.
She was in our house when the doorbell rang. She looked quite frantic and she was on the phone, she looked to be in… tears. She opened the door and there was an angel in her door way wings spread out to their full length. She studied the person for less than a second before they sprinkled something over her face. She frozen as the older man took the phone and said something before hanging up.
‘Whatdidtheydotomymum!?!?’
‘Who?… What??’
‘I saw my mum, and she was at home crying and then an angel sprinkled something over her and she froze’, I said trying to stay relatively calm.
‘Wow, slow down, it just sounds like a calming potion’
‘Ok’, I said knowing I should trust him, but there was still concern tinted in my voice.
I looked back into the water one last time, trying as hard as I could to focus on just myself.
I thought about me just sitting down on my bed, searching the internet.
I looked deeper into the water as it morphed into a picture of me.
I could only see my eyes so I could easily tell that I was crying, slowly blinking through a soft layer of tears. The picture seemed to zoom out; I didn’t look any older than what I was now, everything about me looked the same.
I was wearing a long white dress; it was absolutely beautiful, stunning. My hair was half up with some soft curls and there were a couple white roses tangled in the flower-looking bundle of hair at the top of my head. My wings were completely white. I wonder what I’m feeling.
Suddenly I was walking down an isle of some sorts. Rose petals were everywhere, all over the floor, and it was lightly snowing but I didn’t look the slightest bit cold. I couldn’t tell whether I was still crying because all I could see was the train of my dress going along the soft blue carpet.
Suddenly I could see Nathan staring at me, his eyes filled with complete and utter awe. His mouth was even a little bit open.
The picture then turned to the crowd; my parents were there as well as a few angels I had seen around the place. I could see behind the people where we were, we were at a park... the one I had always wanted to get married at…
All eyes were on me as I drifted down the aisle and faced Nathan… that was when the pictured faded.
I looked up and stared at Nathan… was I being forced into marrying him.
