School again

I must have dozed off because I woke up in my own bed.

My light pink sheet was wrapped tightly around my feet causing me to fall when I attempted to get up. I looked around, everything seemed normal, but I still wasn’t convinced.

I saw peanut butter toast by my bed, it had a small amount of steam coming off of it so it was fresh. I don’t think that I had eaten in at least a day so I ate it all quite quickly, including the crust which I normally hate.

I looked by my bed and found my phone… 4 missed calls and 7 messages. I shifted my hair out of my face and turned it on.

Three of the calls were from my mum, and one of them was from Emma.

I looked at the 5 messages from Emma ‘hey, do you want to catch up?’ ‘Rise of the trees is on at 2:00 on Saturday, are you free?’ ‘Want to come over on Sunday?’ ‘Since when don’t you use your phone?! J’ ‘Hey, are you OK? You haven’t been at school of a while L ’.

There was also one from Stacy ‘Hey, do happen to know what we need to do for maths?’. I checked the date on my phone, it was only Tuesday.

I looked at the date again… 18th… wait… IT HAD BEEN A WEEK! What the heck! Where have I been all week? Did my parents ever care that I was gone?

I quickly checked the last message, one was from Tim, a guy I knew and was sort of friends with, ‘Hey Myth, how’s it going?’.

At that moment my phone buzzed again, this time the message was from Nathan, ‘Morning sweet heart ;) I’ll walk you to school today, got to run over some stuff. See you soon.’…

How did he know I was awake, with that I looked over to my watch, it was 7:00am I have 15 minutes to get ready if I was going to get to school on time.

I hopped over to the cupboard opposite my room and threw out a towel just before heading into the shower.

When I finished I looked at my watch only to see that I have 5 minutes left… I guess I was going to school today with wet hair… great.

I slid into my school uniform, beads of water falling around my feet.

I was doing up the last button when the doorbell rang. ‘Crap’, I muttered to myself under my breath.

I then ripped on my shoes without bothering to do up my laces.

I bounded down the stairs nearly tripping when I turned the corner.

I pushed in the door so I was able to unlock the old bolt.

‘Hey’, I said quietly.

‘Well, hey to you’, Nathan added with a smile.

‘One sec let me just grab my bag’, I said already halfway to the kitchen.

I grabbed some biscuits and found my lunch in the fridge all ready to go.

I was just about to leave when I remembered my parents, I quickly found an old envelope and scribbled down the first thing that came to my mind, At school, all good, see you tonight J, I could never leave a note without a smiley face.

It’s almost like my trademark; if I was ever even passing a car or a T.V. that was dusty I would draw a little smiley face on it… ‘Because you should never go anywhere without some smiles’.

I swung my bad over one of my shoulders and before I knew it I was out the door. The cold morning air was a lot harsher considering my wet hair, and my lack of a jumper wasn’t helping.

I was sure that Nathan  could see my shivers because soon enough he was in the process of taking off his jumper and giving it to me. I was so grateful, and this definitely had an effect of my attitude.

‘So, what’s up?’, I asked in a perky voice.

‘Um… not too much I guess… what about you?’ You could tell me was a little nervous, though he never seemed to be over texts.

‘You tell me… you’re the one that’s known where I’ve been for the past week’, I said in a slightly dampened mood.

‘Look OK… I didn’t have choice’.

‘How didn’t you have a choice?

‘… The elders rule over us… but I guess it’s different for you… well compared to me… look… they trust me… I… I can’t let them down… They could do things… I guess - ‘

‘You’re rambling… ‘ I said butting in.

‘Sorry, it’s just… It’s complicated it will take a while to explain, why don’t you meet me after school, I think there is someone you should meet someone’

‘Do I have a choice?’

‘Well… you do this time’, he added with a little smirk growing on his face.

‘Really?’

‘No… Oh just quickly I don’t think you should mention the cruphence to anyone.’

‘What’s the cruphence?’ I said mockingly.

Oh, right, you don’t know yet… yeah, it was the blue sparky thing that happened when we touched. I think that it would be better if we discussed that on our own.’

He said that just as we pulled up to the side gate to school.

‘Oh Myth… also your cover story was that your mother was in hospital all week and you stayed with her.’ He said winking and walking over to the stairs.

‘Cover story… Um… Ok then….’

I walked through the gate with my head held high, glad to finally be back at school; only for it to be lowered by people’s faces.

Even randoms that I didn’t recognise were giving me funny looks.

I quickly, and hopefully unnoticeably, checked my dress to make sure it was down.

It was, so I moved to my hair, it was still pretty damp but at least it wasn’t dripping. Why was everyone looking at me?
