sunwoo stared at the message he recieved from chanhee and let his phone fall onto his lap.

for a second, he felt a smile form on his face because of how much the boy worried for him but at the same time, he felt an overwhelming guilt for feeling that small sense of happiness given the situation he was in.

and, as though the universe wanted to snap him out of any feelings of warmth, there was a slight murmuring outside the door before the same old doctors came into the room, nodding slightly at him before proceeding to the hospital bed where his mother lay.

unconscious and in pain, his mother had been hospitalised yet again and, since it had happened before, sunwoo knew to leave the room when the doctor's were beginning their check-ups, unable to stomach any of their equipment and practices.

so he sat outside the room on a cold metal chair, chills running down his spine from either fear or the fact that it was simply cold. checking his watch, he sighed and made his way to his morning job at a supermarket near the hospital where his mother was admitted in.

the past few days have been nothing but an endless cycle of him working tirelessly and returning to take care of his mother, spending time with her and talking to her whenever she felt like it.

if he were to be honest, he was so tired of the life he lived and yet, he never complained. he kept at it, sacrificing his sleep, his education and himself for the sake of his mother and his younger sister.

putting on his uniform, he quickly got behind the register, ready to scan the items of the early bird shoppers.
