5 years later

kim sunwoo stared at the countless of letters that had piled up in his house, unwilling to move from the safety of his couch and yet, continuing to stare at the untouched pile as though by sheer eye power, he would get them to move towards him.

but instead, they stayed on the ground, unmoving and practically engaging in a staring competition in which they knew they'd win.

with a sigh, he finally relented and dragged himself over to the floor, slowly sifting through the letters until he found a pastel pink envelope that he knew came from that one person he had fallen in love with years ago.

he let his fingers glide across the envelope, reading his name over and over again and feeling an immense bout of guilt wash over him.

he didn't want to open the letter. no, scratch that. he couldn't open the letter, his heart not allowing him to do so for fear that once he did, the feelings he felt would rush back to him and trap him in its cage.

but he knew that he couldn't keep avoiding the problem forever and, with his trembling hands, he opened the letter, a distinct scent of lilac filling the air and making his heart clench, making him fully aware of how despite him claiming to have been doing just fine on his own, there had always been that part of him that longed to go back to how things were before he decided to close back in on himself and self-destruct.

although they had been happy for years, with the passing of his mother and the way in which chanhee had seemed to have grown distant from him, his thoughts couldn't help but spiral downwards and assume the worst out of their relationship and the communication they once had seemed to progressively get worse over each year together.

and so one day, sunwoo left without saying a word to him or their friends and only keeping in touch with seonmi, the now 19 year old constantly letting the others know that he had been well (even if that was a lie sunwoo had told his sister to get her to stop fretting).

sunwoo always wondered how seonmi could handle such losses so well and a part of him wanted to be that way too. and for a while, he did try but the more he dulled the pain, the greater weight it carried on his heart which caused him to eventually snap.

lucky for him, in those few years, his channel had gotten more attention and with that attention came profit that he had never intended to use solely for himself, giving enough for seonmi to properly attend the same university he had dropped out from. as the older brother, he wanted to give her everything he didn't have yet wanted and although he felt that he wasn't doing enough, seonmi always reassured him that it was.

brushing his fingers against the letter, he slowly began reading through it.

'to kim sunwoo

it's been a while since we've last seen or talked to each other so imagine how shocked i was when seonmi told us that you were still in seoul. honestly, i thought you moved somewhere far away but knowing you're still here is something that made me feel strange.'

sunwoo sighed, running a hand through his hair.

a week ago, he had told seonmi where he was currently staying with the expectation that she would keep it a secret from the others. what he did not expect was for her to do the complete opposite, sharing his exact address with the rest ans asking them to send letter to reconnect with him. when he found out what she had planned, a part of him wanted to see how it would go but the other part wanted to berate her for bringing him back into their radar (or, to be more accurate, bringing him back into chanhee's radar).
