"...and thank you for tuning in!" once the light turned off to indicate that they had gone off air, chanhee sighed, taking off his headphones as his other coworkers complimented him on yet another job well done.
when he had first gone on the radioshow a few years back, he enjoyed it but never once did he imagine him becoming a regular host simply because the number of viewers had skyrocketed during his very first appearance. slowly, he came over more often until eventually, it only felt natural for him to become a regular so there he was, ending their christmas eve show.
it still felt surreal to him. to think he discovered such a path only after his life as an ulzzang and the perfect son of choi junho and lee kara had gone astray. to be frank, if he had known that he could be working in such an environment, he would've derailed his life sooner, the thought of dealing with the industry he was previously in sending chills down his spine.
but he knew that even if he were given a chance to go back in time, he wouldn't change a thing.
everything in his life had happened for a reason and all those hardships he had endured shaped him and led him to not only a job which he felt comfortable with but to a person that he never, in a million years, would've ever thought to have been his soulmate and yet there he was, slowly packing his bag and getting ready to go home to none other than kim sunwoo.
life had a funny way of bringing people together be it by forcing them into school group projects, long bus rides or, in their case, incessant messages about how they should 1v1 each other. whenever chanhee thought about it, he couldn't help but smile (a mannerism that his coworkers had begun teasing him about yelling things such as "he's thinking of sunwoo!" or "simp culture!").
in that one year where sunwoo had suddenly gone off the radar and had (unofficially) broken up with chanhee, chanhee remembered blaming himself for everything that had happened, not bothered to stifle his cries and unwilling to accept any business offers that came his way. he remembered staying in the room they once shared, hiding under the blankets and constantly wishing that sunwoo would walk right through the door and say he had just been pulling an overly elaborate prank. he remembered rewatching his streams every single day just to hear his voice until eventually, he caved and began playing prism again in the hopes that by some miracle, he would be able to play with him.
in that one year, he realised just how much he truly loved and cared for kim sunwoo, that one year feeling like absolute hell on earth for him simply because of his absence.
as if on cue, his phone rang, a familiar caller id appearing on the screen and causing him to smile even more. "are you going back soon?"
chanhee leaned against the table, carefully prepping himself up and trying his best to control his smile just in case his coworkers walked in on him. "why? do you miss me?" he asked, staring at the silver bands on his fingers (one from the convenience store date and the other from the proposal years ago).
sunwoo scoffed, chanhee letting out a "kim sunwoo!" half out of annoyance and half out of fondness.
"i see you everyday. do you really think i'd miss you?" chanhee rolled his eyes, letting out a puff of air before immediately softening once he heard sunwoo laugh on the other side of the line. "of course i miss you my lilac."
my lilac. it always made chanhee feel butterflies in his stomach regardless of how much he had heard it from sunwoo. he wasn't sure what it was about the nickname that made him always react in such a way - maybe it was the fondness in the way he said it or maybe it was the use of 'my', claiming him as his and his alone in the gentlest way possible or maybe it was a bit of both.
"hey, isn't it your turn to say you miss me?"
"i see you everyday," chanhee said, forcing his voice to become deeper in an imitation of sunwoo before laughing loudly at the mental image of sunwoo pouting at the phone. "do i get something if i say yes, i do miss you?"
