sunwoo sat on the edge of the pavement, shaking his leg as he clutched onto his phone tightly, checking the time every once in a while.
although he knew he could endure everything alone, it had slowly become more and more tiring to do so and hearing his mother apologise for the way his life turned out added on to that fact. it forced him to acknowledge his own difficulties in ways he never wanted.
and, when he realised his own issues, he found himself immediately texting the ulzzang boy which was something he couldn't fully comprehend when he had someone like hyunjun in his life.
hyunjun had been there for him since they were 14 and not much has changed between their dynamic. and although hyunjun had his tendencies to be an annoyance, he was so painfully logical and always thought of the different possibilities rather than heading directly to the worst outcome. sunwoo admired that about him but he knew that no matter how hard he tried, he could never reach his level with hyunjun being fully capable of expressing himself to others whereas sunwoo wasn't.
a part of sunwoo thought that that must've been the reason why he instinctively decided to message chanhee instead of hyunjun — they were both so god awful at expressing themselves to others.
"i found you." sunwoo looked up, chanhee pulling his mask away from his face to take a few deep breaths. "you know, this cafe isn't exactly all that easy to find right? the taxi driver didn't know where it was either so i ran around for a bit so i'm sorry for keeping you waiting," chanhee said, his breathing heavy as he sat down next to sunwoo.
"can i lean on you for a bit?" sunwoo asked, his voice sounding as though it could break at any second. "i just want to lean on you for a while."
"of course you can," chanhee replied, shifting closer and sitting upright so that it was easier for sunwoo to lean on him.
they both remained quiet, watching as the birds flew by and as the blue sky slowly turned orange, hints of pink painted the clouds as though it were a work of art.
"chanhee...?" chanhee hummed in response. "can i be selfish?" sunwoo asked, his head still on chanhee's shoulder.
"what kind of question is that?" sunwoo didn't know either so he couldn't reply.
he felt like an idiot.
he felt as though he were in the wrong all of a sudden, his walls building and being reinforced once more and he had to stop himself from physically distancing from chanhee.
he heard chanhee sigh next to him and his heart sank all the way to his feet. he was so afraid of chanhee telling him that he had wasted his time, so scared of chanhee looking at him with a void, cold gaze that replicated the stare younghoon had given him.
he was terrified of the idea that chanhee could simply leave him and never come back.
"i-i'm sorry-"
"you have every right to be selfish once in a while so why do you need to ask permission from me?" chanhee said, gently taking sunwoo's hand in his and rubbing soothing circles on the back of his hand. "what do you want to be selfish about?"
"i don't know...i-i want to relive my childhood, go to fun places and eat good food. i want to go someplace high up and just yell a big fuck you to the universe. i want to go to a beach and just sit there watching the waves crash against the shore. i want to do things i like and i...i really wanted that gaming set you got me," sunwoo said, looking up at the sky as he heard chanhee laugh softly next to him. "it sounds dumb doesn't it? you probably get to do these things often and i really seem like i'm too low-class for you to even associate with me but-"
"let's do all that tomorrow."
sunwoo looked at chanhee who had been looking at him the whole time. "what?"
"let's go to fun places where you can scream at the world for being a piece of shit towards you and where you can relive your childhood. let's go to a beach where we can just sit and watch the waves while eating good food. let's go do things you like. let's be, in your words, 'selfish' for a day so don't cry okay?" sunwoo hadn't even realised that tears had fallen down his face until chanhee wiped them away with his thumb, offering a small smile to him. "as for the gaming set, it was meant to be yours to begin with."
"you mean it?" chanhee nodded, still wiping the tears away from his face. "what if people saw us and they searched on my background and found that i don't have much to my name. won't i embarrass you?"
"you mean a lot more to me than whatever shit others have to say so no, you wouldn't embarrass me. you'd never embarrass me," chanhee said, his voice so gentle that it slightly shocked sunwoo. "and, you don't need to tell me whatever it was that caused you to feel this way but i just want you to know that i don't care what your status or class is. you're still you regardless of wherever you come from and i really like who you are so regardless of what others say, i'll still like being with you."
and sunwoo could've sworn that upon hearing chanhee's words, his heart skipped a beat, his ears slowly turning a bright red at the thought of chanhee liking him for being himself (even if it was in a friend way).
