Chapter 31: A Need to get Stronger

After falling unconscious and being passed out for who knows how long, Asta slowly regains consciousness. Asta groans while sitting up and rubbing his head. He looks around to see that instead of rocks he's lying in a bed. "Where the hell am I?" said Asta before hearing a door open and turning to the direction of the sound. Asta looks to see Mimosa walking into the room. "Asta, you're awake!" said Mimosa in an excited tone. "Mimosa? What are you doing here!? Also, where even is here!?" said Asta as he started to get out of bed. "Please stay in bed for now Asta" said Mimosa as she gently pushed back onto the bed, "let me grab everyone and we'll explain everything". Mimosa then walked out of the room leaving Asta even confused then he was two minutes ago.

After waiting a minute or two, the door opened to reveal Mimosa, Noelle, Klaus and Yuno. "Klaus!? Yuno!? You two are here too!?" said Asta. "It's good to see you're doing better Asta" said Klaus as he pushed up his glasses. Noelle then walked over to Asta and smacked him over the head, "I leave you for ten minutes! Ten minutes! And in that time you come back unconscious!". "Ow! Ok I'm sorry!" shouted Asta as he rubbed his head, "is this how it's gonna be every time I get hurt!". "If you keep acting like an idiot, yes!" replied Noelle, crossing her arms and looking the other way. "Could I at least get a hug like last time!?" shouted Asta as opened his arms. "Fine!" replied Noelle as she turned back around and hugged Asta.

The three spectators of the little couple quarrel stared at the two with deadpan faces. "They're perfect for each other. They're both psycho" said Klaus as he rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I think it's sweet" said Mimosa as she chuckled. "Are you two done, or do we need to leave you two alone?" said Yuno as he pointed to the door. "Oh right sorry" said Asta as he rubbed the back of his head, "so what happened?".

Klaus explained how the trio was on their way to assist but had unfortunately arrived after all the combat was already finished. Then the group brought Asta to the church in Nean to recover his strength with the help of Mimosa's recovery magic. "I should have known it was thanks to you I'm already feeling back to full strength" said Asta as he turned to Mimosa, "thanks Mimosa, you're a lifesaver". "It was my pleasure Asta. I'm just happy to see you finally awake" replied Mimosa as she waved off Asta's compliment. "How long was I out for anyways? Please don't tell me it was over a week again!" said Asta. "Luckily you were out for only a day" said Klaus before his constantly serious face got somehow even more serious, "but Asta...you had a lot of serious injuries. A puncture wound on your arm and multiple broken and nearly broken bones. Who was able to do that to you?".

Asta looked down as he started to remember his battle with Vetto, "they called themselves the Third Eye, apparently they're the strongest members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun". "You're telling me they're even stronger than that Licht guy who tried to kill us!?" said Noelle in shock. Noelle had a front row seat to the power Licht was displaying in his battle with Asta and it was clear that even suppressed Licht was one of the strongest mages in the kingdom. The thought that the Eye of the Midnight Sun had three more mages stronger than him was a scary thought. "That's what they were saying" said Asta as started to get up, "and after being on the receiving end of their attacks I think I believe them. They were strong, if captains Nozel, Charlotte and Jack didn't show up I don't know what would have happened to us".

Noelle noticed Asta's expression while talking about the Third Eye, his usually cocky attitude was gone with a somber expression taking its place. The last time she saw Asta with a similar expression was when she found him at his mothers grave.

But as soon as it arrived it vanished with Asta's signature grin coming back. "But anyways forget about me, how is everyone else?". "All the children are home safe with their parents and Sister Theresa and Gauche have recovered from their injuries" said Noelle. "That's good, is everyone still here?" asked Asta. "No, Yami made Finral take him home cause he "needed to take a dump" and Gauche went home with them" replied Noelle. "That sounds like the captain" said Asta while chuckling, "come on, we should go home too".
