Chapter 7: To Protect

"Why the hell did you attack these people!" said Asta as he stared down the mages while pointing his sword at them. The hoodless mage examined Asta, Magna and Noelle. "The Black Bulls, crude and violent heretics who don't fit in with the rest of the Magic Knights" said the Mage before looking at his watch, "five minutes will be enough time. After eliminating them we will eradicate the villagers and find what we seek". "Don't ignore me!" shouted Asta as he charged at the mage. Before he could land his strike he was trapped in a thick cloud of mist, "foolish boy. Don't think you can approach Lord Heath so casually" said the mage who activated the spell, "now wander in the mis-". "I'm not wandering anywhere!" shouted Asta as he dispelled the mist. 'He did the same to my ice attack, he must have been the one to get them in' thought Heath as he watched Asta destroy the spell, 'that sword must have the ability to negate magic'. "I asked you a question! Why did you attack these people!" shouted Asta. "These people exist in the forsaken realm. They can only use basic magic, they are like animals who lack the inability to use tools" said Heath as starred emotionlessly at Asta, "These beasts could rob me of my time. To save time I simply choose to clear them away". Heath then asked Asta a question "tell me, why do you protect these beasts? Do you do it simply as your job as a Magic Knight?". "Why do I protect them? The reason i'm here is because I want to protect everyone!" shouted Asta in response to Heath's question, 'I refuse to let another kid got through what I did' thought Asta as he remembered the pain he felt when he loss his mother

"I see, so you value the lives of these beasts" said Heath as he activated his grimoire along with his comrades, "Ice and Mist Compound Magic:Endless Ice Cage". The Magic Knights along with the villagers were trapped in a barrier of mist with the same icicles as before pointed at them from all directions. "Let's see how long you can protect these animals in these conditions" said Heath as he began firing the icicles from all directions. In response Asta began destroying the ice with his blade while Magna destroyed them with his fire magic. 'This is bad, if I could activate Black Cloak I have a chance' thought Asta as he continued to slash more and more icicles, 'but I don't have time to activate it and defend everyone!'. 'Me and Asta got our hands full here, not to mention I'm running low on mana' thought Magna, 'not to mention those four are all at the level of a Magic Knight and that Heath guy still hasn't shown us everything he can do!'.

"This turning into one hell of a first mission ay you two!" shouted Magna as he destroyed more icicles. "Don't worry your fellow commoners will protect you right Asta!" shouted Magna towards the villagers and Asta, "right" replied Asta as he saved a mother and daughter from a large icicle. "Let's see how long you last" said Heath as he increased the speed of the icicles. Now no matter how hard they tried Asta and Magna couldn't stop all the incoming icicles from hitting villagers. "You heartless bastard! Your fight is with us, leave these people out of it!" shouted Asta as he attempted to stop as many icicles as he could. "Your ability to negate magic would be troublesome to fight head on" replied Heath, "the most time effective way is to beat you in a battle of attrition". In an attempt to help Noelle fired a magic attack at Heath that missed. "I see they even have one that can't control her magic. The Black Bulls must really be desperate for member" said Heath. "These weak beasts can't even protect themselves, if you give up on defending them you'll survive Magic Knights" said Heath as he witnessed the villagers suffer more and more injuries from his relentless attack. 'I'm a royal, I have the strongest magic here... but I'm just holding them back' thought Noelle as she could only watch Asta and Magna attempting to protect everyone. Noelle then thought about what Heath had just said, 'that's right, I'm a royal... I can't die in some random village like this. I should just run'. Before Noelle could attempt anything a little girl began to pull on her clothes, "miss Magic knight... please save us" said the child while crying. Seeing the child begging for help triggered something in Noelle, 'this child is asking for help! I refuse to leave them!' thought Noelle as her grimoire began to glow and new writing appeared within it. Noelles resolve caused her to unlock a new spell Water Creation Magic: Sea Dragons Lair, the spell created a water barrier that protected everyone from the icicles. "I am Noelle Silva! I am Royalty and a Black Bull! I will protect the people of this country!" shouted Noelle as everyone looked in awe of her new spell. "What is this power?" said Heath, shocked as his icicles were unable to penetrate the barrier.
