VERONICA

I ran my dagger up his stomach, lightly pressing to leave a trail of blood as I dragged it up.

He gave me a saccharine smile, lifting his body to kiss me, but I pushed him back down.

I start running my fingers through his hair as I pierce through his eyes.

I give him a sweet smile as my dagger stops at where his heart started rapidly beating.

"You're so beautiful, darling." He whispered.

"I know."

Smiling, I drove the dagger in, stabbing his heart. His mouth started spouting blood as he tries to reach me, but I'm already moving to put my shirt and coat back on.

I roll my eyes as he finally wastes his last breath. Took him long enough.

"That was intense." Taylor says through the earpiece.

"Disgusting is more like it." I counter as I walk out of his bedroom and out of the house.

Two weeks have passed since Samael's attack on me. Since then, we've been given many missions after the last attack of the museum arsonists and their letter.

Not one sign of any attempt to burn down the remaining museums surfaced, so we're stuck running other missions that were usually limited to killing wraiths and the like.

Earlier today, Tarrin assigned Taylor and I to kill another wraith.

"How many wraiths do you think Tarrin has a problem with?" I query as I get in the passenger's seat of Taylor's car.

"Don't know. Probably has a whole list of ghosts ready for you to kill." Taylor joked, which I necessarily don't think is impossible.

Taylor drove me to my apartment, dropped me off at my building, then took off to the nearest bar to party with Matt.

I took the elevator up to the highest floor, where my apartment was.

Unlocking the door, I stepped into the darkened room. I rolled my eyes at his presence, shrugging my coat off while doing so.

"Boundaries, Hermes." I say before turning the light on to see Hermes in a gold suit.

"How did you see me?"

"I didn't. I felt your presence."

"Yes, the air suddenly smells and feels better when I'm around."

I rolled my eyes at him and padded across the floors to pour two glasses of bourbon.

I handed Hermes one as I sipped mine and sat on my couch.

"Thanks, but I'm more of a fine wine god. I'm sure Lore would love this, though."

"What do you want?" I ask, finally making eye contact with him.

Hermes sighs, then sits down beside me.

"I," he blew out a breath, "I've missed you. Do I need a reason?"

"To break into my apartment and wait for me in the dark? Normally, yes."
