VERONICA
"What's up, boss?" Warren asks as he teleports us to Tarrin's office.
Tarrin flipped through a folder as he pointed to the chairs, ordering us to sit.
"What do you know about the new nightclub in London?" He asks, not taking his eyes off the file.
"Nightcrawler? It opened about about a month ago, long lines every night. Why?" Warren answers.
"My friend, Arnold Arrodon, owns the place. Arnold wants someone dead, the usual. I believe you know where this is going."
"Alright, who's dying tonight?"
Tarrin looked up from his folder as he closed it and set it down on his table. His eyes found Warren's first, then diverted to mine.
"You're quiet today, Veronica."
I rolled my eyes as I reached for the folder. Noting the large Midas Association logo at the center, I opened it to look at the eyes of a middle-aged man.
He was seated on a leather chair, drink in hand and a cigar in the other.
"Who is he?" I ask with a bored tone.
"Maurice Goldman. Vampire with a lust for the highest drugs on the market. Preys on young, drunk women at the club as well. He started dealing there at the club, but wouldn't leave because he has something on Arnold."
"I'm assuming you want Maurice's head and whatever he has on Arnold."
"I thought Arnold was your friend?" Warren cuts in.
Tarrin smiled and laid back. "Anyone can betray anyone, Warren. I'm just doing it before he could."
Warren snickered at that as I continued my perusal of the man's file.
"He wants it done tonight. The bouncer will let you in with the passcode and Veronica will be posing as a potential buyer of Maurice's products. Any questions?"
I closed the file with one hand as I looked at Tarrin.
"None, boss." I said before disappearing in the curling darkness.

I got in Warren's car as we drove off to The Nightcrawler. Warren handed me an earpiece as he explained the plan.
"Tarrin said he would be up at the VIP Area tonight, some big drug deal happening tonight. I'll be at the main area to get rid of his men."
"I thought Arnold just wanted Maurice dead?"
"Well, turns out Arnold wants his entire network collapsed. Whatever's going down tonight is big enough for every major shareholder of his to be there."
I sighed at that. Grabbing the bag I had placed in the backseat, I opened it to reveal a cache of wooden stakes and daggers.
Warren whistled at the sight of it as I started sheathing the weapons on my bandolier that would be veiled from any prying eyes unless I willed it to appear.
I couldn't hide any weapons on me, save for the sheathed dagger Lore created that I placed on my back, held in place with my zipper and covered with my long black hair. My black silk dress would've drawn too much to whatever I would put on my body, so I settled for the bandolier instead.
Warren parked the car a block away from the club that already had many partygoers lined up. We walked to the entrance, shoulders linked, looking like a couple as I walked up to the bouncer to whisper the password.
"Venom."
Recognition sparked in the bouncer's eyes as he let us in, the loud music blaring through the room with its raucous crowd.
We walked up to the bar, Warren ordering our drinks to the bartender as I conducted my preliminary search through the club.
There, by the stairs leading to the VIP Area, were two men in suits. They watched the lively sight with straight faces, still as death.
I tapped Warren's shoulder to direct him to the guards. We simultaneously drank our drinks in one gulp, preparing before we started.
"We need a distraction." I told him.
"Don't worry, V. I got this." He said as he beelined to a group of men, their drunken state written all over their faces.
I walked to the VIP area slowly as Warren's eyes turned yellow, using his magic to compel the men to do something.
The men started shouldering through the people dancing, eyes fixated on the guards as Warren disappeared from sight.
They started taunting the guards, pushing them and shouting offensive remarks and a string of curses at them. It wasn't long until a full blown fight broke out, the music too loud for anyone else to even notice.
I crept past them as I started climbing the stairs, walking down the long hallway to reveal the VIP room.
It was more peaceful here compared to the catastrophe downstairs, but people still partied nonetheless.
My eyes scanned the area, looking for the disgusting face of the vampire. There, he was seated at the back of the room.
Girls in lingerie sat beside him, looking at him with the biggest smiles on their face, desperate for his attention as he talked to someone.
Four bodyguards flanked him, alongside his other shareholders who looked at the buyer with what looked like curiosity and fear.
I walked up to them slowly, making sure to make my hips sway as he caught sight of me.
"Ah, there she is. Miss Wickham, Arnold told me you'd be here. Please take a seat." He told me with a smile.
"Across you or beside you?" I asked, returning the smile on his face.
He laughed. "Well, we could make some sort of arrangement for the latter."
"Sure. But, I'll settle for the first for now." I said as I sat beside his other buyer.
"Right. Miss Wickham, meet the man himself." He said with an even bigger smile on his face as he pointed to the man beside me.
I turned to my left, anger slowly building up inside me as I faced Lore as he looked at me with his irritating grin.
"The God of Death and Darkness, in the flesh. Let's begin, shall we?"
