VERONICA
It's five in the morning, and everyone's either giddy and energized, or morose and half-awake. Today, I'm neither.
Florens beams beside me as we walk down the hall to the portal room. When she arrived an hour ago with Hermes and Lore, everyone immediately started introducing themselves, shocked at the presence of a goddess that rarely ever set foot on the mortal realm.
She ignored all of them, Nixon receiving the coldest shoulder of all. She immediately walked to where I was sitting alone, and now here we were.
We enter the cavernous room. There, at the center of the room, stood the unlit portal. It looked ancient. Scrolls and runes from the fifth realm carved all over the dark stone.
Warren walked up to it and started chanting, his hands displaying a blue glow.
Florens shifted beside me as I turned to look at her. She dawned a look of awe at the warlock, her lips the shape of a circle. She turned to look at me, shrugging her shoulders at my raised eyebrows.
A few seconds later, the portal opened. Warren turned to us and splayed his arms, a look of 'I-just-did-that' on his face.
He walked backwards into the blue light and his body passed through the portal. Olivia giggled, then dragged Taylor with her as they ran inside.
Gideon looked over us all before entering, followed by Matt.
Nixon coughed after a few seconds of silence. I looked up at him, eyebrows furrowing at the continuous tilt of his head to the portal.
"Perhaps you should go first, angel. We do not need such devices to visit other realms." Florens sharply suggested.
He looked at the goddess, giving her a once-over, then looked back at me. He extended his palm to me while giving me a knowing smile.
Take my hand, and I'll take you to the skies. He once told me.
And if I fall? I countered then.
You won't. I promise.
Jaw hardening at the memory, I separated myself from the group and ignored his extended arm, pushing through it intentionally to walk through the portal.

"Trees, trees, and surprise, more trees." Hermes sarcastically said to my left as we ventured deeper into the woods.
The portal lead us to a forest deep within the Fifth Realm. Birds I've never seen before sang unheard symphonies and trees with opalescent leaves encompassed us.
Florens grimaced next to me. "Perhaps my desire to leave the Underworld was short-lived." She murmured.
"Oh come now, goddess. It must be nice to finally travel through realms. Isn't that what you've always wanted?" Hermes mocked.
"Not when I'm left impotent and useless!"
Hermes snickered. "Good thing I'm not impotent in ways more than one. The twelve realms would crumble if I were rendered so."
