VERONICA
"It's about time you came."
Warren and Hermes snickered at Olivia's comment like the two immature immortals they were. A glance to their direction was enough to shut them up.
I rolled my eyes before placing my attention back on her. "Where's Azura and Brie?"
"Currently being questioned by Cassian and Florens," I began following her down the castle halls. "I think it's because they don't believe their story."
I took a moment to consider this. Their arrival was abrupt, and they were not exactly on good terms with anyone. Lore's actions probably put them on edge too.
"Veronica?"
I raised my eyebrows at Olivia. "Yeah?"
The witch immediately wrapped her arms around me. My eyes went wide in shock, but I hugged her back and smiled. "You alright?"
She shook her head. "I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you too," I said when we separated. There was no doubt in the fact that I missed all of them. It killed me to not have acknowledged the fact that I remembered them the day I got my memories back, but it was worth it. At least that was what I've been telling myself.
Olivia smiled and gestured down the hall. "They're right here." She opened the door to what I recognized as the war room from before.
The raucous room noticeably went silent when we walked in, a dagger later embedding itself to the wall a few inches short from my head. I perused the knife for a while before removing it to search for the cause.
"See? And now she's trying to kill Veronica again." Cassian argued from where he stood.
"That was an accident!" Azura shouted, then looked at me. "Sorry. It really was."
I gave her a nod. "Too bad you missed."
A scoff emitted from my left. "You can't be serious, Veronica."
"Why not?" I turned my head to Florens.
"They took you, and now you're friends with them?"
"We're not exactly friends," I retorted as I waved the dagger once in front of Azura and stashed it in the empty sheath around my leg. I remembered wrestling over whether or not to take my onyx dagger from Florens' bedside table that day. I hadn't had the time to get it back since then.
Cassian snickered and took his seat around the round table. "Neither are we. You are an enemy and a threat to the kingdom."
"Listen, for the last time: we did not come here to harm you. The previous time we met was a misunderstanding." Brie argued from where she stood next to Azura.
"The previous time? The one where you nearly killed all of us and took Veronica? You call that a misunderstanding?"
"Okay, don't be dramatic." Azura stepped forward, but Brie struck out her hand and grabbed her wrist, shaking her head and mouthing no at her. She ignored this. "We were with Demeter then. We were just following orders."
