VERONICA
The king's servants led us to a hall filled with doors leading to multiple guest rooms. Everyone started dispersing and claiming a room as theirs.
I walked down to the end of the hall and chose the lone room there. Inside, a white four-poster bed was pushed up against the wall beside wooden bedside tables. A wardrobe occupied the left side of the room while a study table was in the other, next to another doorway leading to the bathroom.
I laid my sheathed sword and daggers on the table and opened the wardrobe to see it full of clothes, both men's and women's. I closed it after, then slumped in the bed.
If the world would allow me to, I would sleep until the sunrise of tomorrow. But, I couldn't. I can't. Not only does our staying here in the Fifth Realm delay our investigation on the arsonists, but now we have to win a war that wasn't even ours to begin with.
I know I said we'd do it if the fae ask, but I'm tired. A month ago, I was just taking normal assignments from Tarrin. Kill this person, retrieve that information. Now, it's decode death threats from dark angels and take down entire kingdoms.
Enough. I don't need to discourage myself with all this nonsense. Now is not the time to think about what once was and face the present.
With that in mind, I opened the closet and changed into something new and clean. I wore a black velvet corset with a deep V neckline and gold fixtures in front. I paired it with simple leggings and boots, then unbraided my hair to let it down.
(author's note: again, kind of annoying but you can just disregard this and move on with the story. anyway, here's a visual for the corset since I love them so much)
I went inside the bathroom to freshen up my face that looked haggard. I sighed at the heavy under eye bags and blemishes all over my face, but what could you do when you traipse through the forest all day and get no sleep?
Taking deep breaths, I fixed my hair, then walked out of the room to explore the palace.

The halls were empty, save for the several servants that I greeted as they passed by. They looked surprised as I did, but they smiled and nodded nonetheless.
I continued exploring the castle. The walls were full of paintings of the old fae, some carrying a clear resemblance to the king.
I opened a door that led to a room that looked entirely different from the interior inside the palace. The room was completely bright from the sunlight streaming through the glass dome ceiling. The walls were full of weapons, mostly swords and daggers.
