The Move

Chapter 21

I was almost there when I got a call. I saw my mother's name light up on the screen. I decided not to answer it because I don't even want to. I decided to just listen to music the rest of the way there.

An hour later I called my friend Alex to let her know I was coming over.

"Didn't you like, move to Texas?" She asked.

"I drove back after 3rd hour yesterday." I said.

"You drove all fucking night?!" She screamed into the phone.

"Yeah so I'm coming to your house to sleep." I said tiredly.

"K then." She said and hung up.

I didn't know what else to do so I went to the bank and got in line to get about 40 bucks before going to her house. See, Alex was older than me and she had her own apartment with her boyfriend Nathan. Nathan scared me because he was like 8 feet tall. But oh well, the least I could do was pay her for the night I stayed there.

My thinking was interrupted a familiar face walked in the room.

"Well if it isn't the girl who broke my heart and then left." he said.

I turned to see Ben, more hurt than ever.

"But you still have the courtesy to come back and break my heart again." He said laughing, holding back tears.

"Look Ben, I'm sorry. I-" I started saying but he cut me off.

"You're sorry? You had so many chances to apologize. This is not one of them." He said walking out of the bank.

I didn't mean to hurt him that bad.. I thought he was happy with May, last time I checked they had been dating since I left. I thought he was happy..

I got up to the window and the teller coaxed me into talking 50. I don't know how but I couldn't care less, I just wanted to get to Alex's.

It toke me about 25 minutes to find her apartment complex but I was ecstatic when I found it. I gently knocked on the door and was greeted by Alex who just so happened to be a couple inches shorter than me.

"Hows it been hun?" She asked me.

"It has sucked." I said, "So where is the other one?" I asked her?

"Nathan or the dog?" She asked.

"The sasquatch." I said.

"He is getting me lunch because I have to go to drill soon." She said.

"Damn, you're still in? I thought when you got back from Hawai'i you were done with it." I said dumbfounded.

"No, haha I'm still in the army." She smiled.

She had the type of smile to make you feel safe and it was the smile you wish you had.

"Well heres 40 bucks for letting me stay the night and you could use it for gas." I said handing her 40 out of the 50 bucks I had gotten.

"Oh no, I couldn't possibly take your money. You can stay here for free hun." She said.

"Well in that case thanks and I'm going to sleep." I said laughing and flopping on the couch.

"Have fun." She laughed while throwing a pillow and a couple of blankets at me.

"Love you Lex." I said passing out.

When I woke up it was 2 in the morning. I didnt want to wake up Nathan if he was here so I got out my laptop and my headphones from my backpack. I sat there for about 45 minutes listening to music and playing games. I finally turned around to see a tall shadowy figure standing there looking at me.

"Holy fucking asswipe Jesus balls!" I screamed so loud.

The next thing I saw was that figure laying on the floor having a laugh attack.

"Jesus Christ you scared the shit out of me." I said walking over to the light switch and turning it on.

I saw Nathan trying to sit up but couldn't cause he was laughing so hard. after about 10 minutes he finally calmed himself down and got up to make food.

"You sleep for a long time." He said.

"How long were you standing there I walked over to the cabinet and grabbed a bag of potato chips.

"About 3 minutes. Alex texted me that you were here and to make sure you were comfortable. She's always looking out for her friends." He said smiling.

"Well aren't you just a fan." I said sitting on the counter eating the potato chips.

"That brings me up to, are you okay?" He turned around to face me.

"What do you mean?" I dare to ask.

"Why are you here, what's wrong?"

"I'm just done with people talking shit and assuming shit when it's not even true. I hate how people think that it's okay for them to be fake and then just act like everythings okay. Like I cant even trust someone I called my friend with a joke. she had to go and say something and it ruined a very close friendship.. And I never thought she would but she did, I learned that I trusted the wrong person and she should never be trusted again.." I said getting angry.

"Why did she do it?" He asked.

"I don't even know anymore." I said, "But whats up with you."

"I need your help on something but you can't tell Lex." he said.

"Promise I won't. So go on." I said.

"I want to propose to her and I need your help on how to do it." He whispered fast.

"Oh my god, finally. What are your thoughts so far?" I asked.

"I want it to be amazing for her, that's all I know." He smiled at the thought of her.

"Okay, aweee. But want about a movie marathon and pizza dinner and at the end you could get a giant cookie that says 'will you marry me?' on it with the ring in the middle and tell her how much you love her and just because you want it to be special doesn't mean it has to be big." I said.

"You really think it will work?" He said.

"It's Alex, I know it will." I said smiling, "Now I'm going back to bed." I said putting the chips back and laying back on the couch.

"Night." He said turning off the lights.

"Goodnight Nathan." I said shutting my eyes.

All I could think about was if Calum would ever do that for me. If Calum and I would ever end up together.
