Jess

Yesterday CPS came and took the kids. It's been a week since mom died. Ty has been bad again, and apparently Ben has been on the brink of another breakdown since last week.

I texted Ben and told him I didn't want him back for awhile. Lylah still sends me updates, and I appreciate it greatly. Ben has been getting extremely drunk every night and hasn't talked about mom.

Ty hasn't taken his meds in a week. Sometimes we argue about it, and he gets really angry. He's been mostly out of it and sad or angry, or empty really.

I think I'm still gonna go to nursing school. Lylah was right, I need to do something for myself. Mom already paid for it.

I start in two weeks, Ben starts art school next week. I'm hoping he goes still.

Ty came downstairs, "Morning".

"Coffee?" I asked.

"No, I'm good".

"How're you? Slept good?" I sat on the counter.

Ty shrugged, "I'm doing good, slept well. I just have a feeling today is gonna be a good day".

I smiled, "Good, we've all needed a good day lately".

"Talked to Ben?" I asked.

Ty nodded, "Yesterday before he went out, he called me. He sounds bad".

I nodded, "Lylah said he looks tired".

"I hope he starts taking his meds".

"You should take a word of advice from your own book".

Ty glared.

I sighed.

"I'm an adult, I can take care of myself".

"Anyway," I smiled, "You thinking about doing some post secondary?".

"No" Ty pulled a smoke out.

"Didn't you always wanna be-".

Ty went outside. Well, there goes the one happy kid. Ava barely talked to anyone since Christmas, Juli was acting relatively normal. Normal is weird for him.

I got ready for my appointment with CPS. I had to set up a court date to become a legal guardian, and have a home inspection.

Ben

I woke up around lunch. Not bad for going to bed at 4am, but I felt pretty sick. I took a shot before Lylah got back and rested.

Lylah walked in, "You're alive".

"Barely" I joked.

Lylah smiled, "I'm grateful at least. I love you".

"I love you too" I smiled.

She kissed me, "I can taste the vodka still".

I took a second, "Yeah, that's what happens when you drink".

"Your mouth permanently Tastes like pure booze?" Lylah smirked.

I laughed a little.

"Hey, I got good news" Lylah pulled her phone out.

I waited.

"Wanna guess?".

"Pregnant?".

Lylah laughed, "Fuck no, not having a baby with an alcoholic".

I glared, "I'm not an alcoholic".

"Anyway, we got accepted to rent that townhouse by your school. We can move in next week".
