Butch and Kade began their journey, stumbling over logs, rocks and many other things (mostly it was Kade tripping and Butch shaking his head).
However, what an interesting pair they made! Kade, a silly, yet brave rascal and Butch, a mysterious, yet surprisingly trustworthy wolf. Wow, what a mixture!
"I swear, it's always the roots that I trip over." Kade complained, searching around for more as soon as the sentence left his mouth.
Butch rolled his eyes, snickering. "A few minutes ago it was rocks getting stuck in between your paw pads, and now it's roots that you might trip over? Make up your mind, you little devil. You are making me confused." Fake hurt was placed on his face.
"Oh, please. My comments can't be THAT confusing...right? I like things easy, I'd be startled if I make my words hard to understand." Kade began to rethink his opinion.
"Heh, but, sometimes you need to do what's right, not what's easy." Butch quoted, glancing at the blue sky as clouds starting filling from no where. Soon, this beautiful sky would be gray and the wonderful sight behind it would be hard to see.
The tan wolf sighed. He was going to miss glaring at the sky. But, the clouds were a sign that they were already getting closer to the mountain. Over the last few hours, Butch and Kade had tried to move as fast as possible.
Kade noticed that Butch was kind of zoning out, so he decided to try and bring him back to reality. "Where'd you hear that?" He cocked his head to the right, referring to the quote.
Butch blinked, quickly snapping back. He took his gaze off Kade for a split second to answer. "My mother. She loved telling me quotes like that. She'd go on and on about how life can take you to unexpected places and that sometimes you need to follow quotes to right the wrong. She told me that one more often than the others. It was her favorite, not to mention, it was my father's too. Both my parents loved that quote, and got me into it as well. I believe that sometimes you have to stop being lazy and actually try to make a difference. At least, that's what that quote told me."
The gray wolf nodded, impressed with how much time it took Butch to reply (not very long, mind you), but he also agreed with Butch's statement. Sometimes you have to try, no matter what the outcome. "Like a poet. You are like a poet. An incredible poet." Kade whispered, his words making Butch slightly shiver when they entered his ear.
The tan wolf blushed, and turned his head away with one swift movement, not wanting Kade to see his embarrassment. "Um, yeah...thanks." He paused, not daring to look back at the other male.
"Why did you just look away?" Kade asked.
"No reason, just leave it alone, you dog." Butch snapped, although it seemed less harsh of a tone than Kade expected. Firm, yet still caring that he might hurt Kade's feelings.
"You weren't blushing, were you?"
