"Kade, I really don't think we should be here." Trevis complained, flattening his ears.
"Jeez, relax, Trevis. They aren't going to find us." Came a reply from up the tree.
"They'll find me on the ground! You're like invisible!" Trevis pointed out.
Kade was a little hard to see with leaves covering him. "Then come up here."
"No, I don't want to be part of your mischief." Stated the wolf below Kade, who sounded like he made a final decision.
"Please, Trevis? It's not that hard to just put out your claws and pull yourself upwards-"
"No, Kade!" Trevis repeated firmly, interrupting his friend. "You are so immature."
Kade, who was extremely good at hiding his feelings, didn't show any emotion, though he was a bit hurt inside. "You don't really believe that, do you?"
"Sometimes. I have to think it over so I don't let myself get convinced. I do that for you. You should be thanking me."
"For what? Trying to encourage yourself that I'm not always immature?" Kade asked, slightly confusing himself.
"Yes, exactly. You seem to be a little smarter today."
"That's rude." Kade snapped, soon regretting it. "Sorry."
"It's fine. I went too far." Trevis told Kade, apologizing with his smile.
"Please."
"Hm?"
"Climb the tree."
Trevis sighed, knowing he didn't have a choice, so he soon tried to grasp onto a nearby branch, but was having difficulty getting up. "Ugh." He grunted.
"Need help there?" Kade sneered.
"No, I got it." He mumbled, continuing to make an effort. Trevis crawled up on the branch. "See, I told you I could do it."
"Trevis. I was under you, and you know it."
"Yeah, but still. I felt successful for once."
"Oh, you don't really mean that, do you?"
"It's partially true. My father despises me. The pack looks down on me. So do you...not often, but it just happens without you realizing it." Trevis admitted, shuffling his paws.
Kade leaped back on the branch next to Trevis and glanced away for a while. "I might be too shy to say it, but I never meant any of the things I said. I guess I can just be pretty unaware sometimes and I don't know how my words can really affect others. Not always positively, as it seems. I'll change, Trevis. I promise."
