The tom was only a young adult, not quite reaching the age of maturity, but he was old enough to mate. He didn't have any interest in the subject, however.
The rain pierced his skin. He hated water, not just the rain, but it was also the fact that he didn't see any shelter nearby.
As he kept moving along, the thought of shelter got farther and farther away, and his hope was running out.
Finally, he saw a cave and he dashed inside, panting slightly, shaking the rain off his pelt before curling into a ball, trying to hold onto what little heat he had left. He was nearly asleep, until he heard a hissing.
Shadow leaped up in surprise, hackles raised and fur bristling.
"What are you doing here?" Said a voice sternly.
"I-I needed some shelter from the rain."
"Well, so did I, and I don't feel like sharing. So shoo! Get out of here before you regret it! I'll chase you out myself if that is what it takes! This cave ain't big enough for the two of us!"
"Well, if you think about it, literally, it is big enough for the two of us, unless you are a large animal...but overall, I think we can both fit."
"Large animal? The nerve you have!" The creature belonging to the voice threw some sort of small bone at Shadow, who dodged it, though it almost hit him.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that." He began sweating, and stepped closer to the direction the sound was coming from.
"Get away from me!"
Thunder was booming in the clouds, and lightning split, bringing light into the cave long enough for Shadow to see a terrified she-cat pressed against one of the corners.
"You're a cat, just like me..." He mumbled quietly.
The female's fear softened a little as she watched him, finally able to see that he was also a feline. She didn't move, she just stood there, staring.
He wrapped his tail around his paws and slowly began to purr. "My name is Shadow...and I'm harmless." He told her.
She inched closer, still being alert, and to be honest, he didn't blame her. He'd be cautious too, if he was in her situation.
Author's Note
Yes, this is the end of the chapter. It is called, "How I Met Your Mother", not, "How I Fell In Love With Your Mother". Lol, they do fall in love obviously, as they have Jarson and Corrie as their sons.
