Rain began pattering against the large pipe that was above the ground, its inside partially filled with dirt at the bottom.

The shivering cats huddled together, trying to keep warm. The metal kept them dry, but many of the felines were starving.

"Shadow, what will we do? There haven't been any mice that have crawled in here for weeks, and we are too scared to go outside, especially in the bad weather. Hell, you've got kittens that will die if they don't get enough milk!" Squeaked an older she-cat.

"Quiet, Violet. It's not my fault you guys are starving. I know we are in a group here, but right now, I believe it's every man for himself. For days now I've been sneaking out and hunting to keep my kittens fed, that's why they aren't dead.

"They are old enough now to eat food, they no longer eat milk. You want food, Violet? Search for it your damn self. I'm not feeding someone else. Besides, my sons are my family, that's why I'm not selfish enough to let them die. They are my SONS!" Shadow hissed.

Violet looked shocked as the gray cat gave away his secret. "Traitor!" She screeched. Shadow tackled her to the ground before a bunch of other cats could either pull them away, or get in between their battle.

"I will not risk my life for you fools! My sons are the only things that matter to me anymore! I have nothing left, I have to keep them alive! For my mate, I have to!" Shadow yelled at her, biting her neck until she kicked him off.

It was a small wound, she definitely wouldn't die from it, but she just wanted him off of her. "You could have fed all of us." Violet cried.

"It's not my job." The tom clearly said.

Just then, multiple hungry jaws appeared in one end of the pipe.

"Wolves!" Someone shouted.

Already, the wild animals were getting a hold of some of the cats closer to the entrance of one side of the pipe, sending everyone scurrying the other way.

Wolves began surrounding the cats, and soon, Shadow had no choice but to separate himself from the rest of them, only taking his sons with him.

There was blood everywhere, and Shadow had to watch where he was stepping.

He carried Jarson on his back and Corrie in his jaws, hanging by the flap of skin meant for that purpose.

The middle aged male moved aside a few vines and placed his sons in a small grassy area nearby that was covered by branches, leaves and other nature.

He knew they would be safe there, the only real way to get in was the way he was poking his head through. He wasn't worried about them attracting noise. Besides, he would tell them to be quiet. And, the vines would prevent anyone from seeing the kittens, as well as block out part of their scent.

"D-dad?" Corrie whispered. "What's going to happen to us?"
