Sitting on the tracks, waiting for the night train,

Looking down the road, ain't never gonna go back.

Listen for the whistle through the wind and raindrop.

Who's gonna ride the devil's train tonight?

"Devil's Train" By The Lab Rats

"How dare you come and try to take my sons away from me!" Shadow yelled.

"I-I swear, Shadow, I didn't mean to! They were all alone! What was I supposed to do, just leave them there?"

"I was there FIRST!" He screamed.

"YOU ABANDONED THEM!" Phoenix shouted back.

"You are not their true father! So just leave! Back down! I don't care what it takes! Leave my family alone! Get out of our LIVES!"

The last sentence echoed in the wolf's mind.

He woke up with a start, cold sweat dripping down his forehead.

He heard the familiar sound of the train moving quickly on the tracks. Next to him was Jarson, Corrie and Storm, with Shadow a bit more off to the side, still close, but at the same time, far away.

All of them were in deep sleep, except for Phoenix of course, since he just had a nightmare and literally shot awake.

He sighed, his breath turning into condensation and he stood, stretching quietly before walking over to the edge of the train car, the door pulled back to let some of the night's air in.

As he glared out, the wolf saw a very familiar light in the sky. The moon. He tipped his head back to howl, but just before he was about to, he heard a voice.

"Are you going to howl?"

Phoenix's fur bristled due to being startled. He had recognized the voice. Jarson's. But when he turned around, he was surprised to find Shadow instead, who had noticed the wolf's discomfort when he had woken up and went to see what was wrong.

"Oh. Shadow...I thought you were Jarson." Phoenix blushed. "Your voices sound alike."

"Not a problem." Shadow answered.

The canine began to shift into different positions.

"Are you alright?"

"I suppose..." Came a whispered response.

"Is it because I asked you that question? Was it personal? I'm sorry if it was, maybe it's just a wolf-thing, and I really have no business in the matter."
