"You know he's watching us."
"Yeah, but it doesn't make me miss him any less." Corrie sighed.
"Hey, he'd be proud of you." Jarson purred.
"R-really?"
"Of course. He'd be proud of both of us. You've grown up so much, little bro."
"So have you, Jarson. You've got your own family now."
"Yep, and the second litter is on the way! Haha. Um, not from me, I mean, Storm...cause you know, she's the female...I can't get pregnant. But they are my kittens, since I was the one who got her pregnant. Oops! I meant, our kittens! They are both Storm and my kittens."
Corrie started laughing. "Jar, just shut up. You are only making it worse." He teased.
"I suppose I am, aren't I? Heh..." Jarson gazed up at the night sky, the stars glittering like little fireflies.
"You see the constellation? There's Phoenix, me, you and Shadow. Huh, it seems like Shadow's constellation has moved closer to ours."
"Duh, because he's still part of our family. He'll always be. And see? Shadow's constellation is smiling now."
"It wasn't before?"
"Nope."
The stars that built up Phoenix's constellation twinkled brightly.
"He sent us a message." Corrie whispered.
"Yeah?"
"Yep. He tells us that he loves us and he really wishes that he was here right now."
"So do I." Jarson muttered, as tears began to fall down his face.
"Jar, are you crying?!"
"No! Okay...maybe! Maybe just a little!"
Corrie scoffed. "More like a lot. But don't cry! Cause if you start crying, I start crying!" He exclaimed, as he soon began to sob. "I still don't understand why Phoenix passed away before Shadow!"
"I think it has something to do with the fact that when Shadow was resurrected, he was the same age he was when he had died in the first place, and then he continued to age.
"But Phoenix never stopped aging, so he continued to get older, and older, until he finally peacefully passed away. We are lucky that we still have Shadow."
"Yeah, but don't forget, now that Shadow is back on Earth, he will age again, meaning that he might die soon too."
"Then we'll be alone."
"You've got me."
"That's why I said, 'we'. We'll be alone. You know...together."
Jarson ruffled the fur on Corrie's head playfully. "You're strange." He chuckled. Some of Corrie's fur stood back up, while the rest slowly fell in the middle of his face, between his eyes.
Author's Note:
I am not done with this chapter yet. I'll keep you updated, though! Also, if you can't tell, this is like years ahead in the story (One, at least)! I like to put new scenes into the novel that are more ahead that were the actual story itself is. Then I build it up to that point, or work down. Either way is fine!
I just like the thought of Jarson being the type of father that is enthusiastic to start a family, but at the same time is responsible, and only started a family because he wanted to. He and Storm both agreed on it, so the kittens are not unexpected. He is not the kind of father that abandons his kittens once they're born, because the kittens' births were planned.
Because of his excitement, I knew that it would be absolutely adorable to add in where Jarson has some trouble speaking, because he's just so thrilled/delighted at the thought of being a father. Especially of a second litter! Now there's more of his love to go around!
When you think about it, Jarson has claimed a lot of traits from Shadow, at least the traits about being a good father. And the way they raise their children is also very similar.
Shadow did not abandon Jarson or Corrie, he simply just left them for a split second to look for more survivors, and ended up being murdered, so he never came back, that is until, he was resurrected.
