During art class, everyone receives unexpected news.
"Class, it's my pleasure to announce the semester's huge art project. As you may know, each semester there is one long term project that is worth half of your grade, and it'll show how much you've improved over the course," professor Smith says, flashing the class a sweet smile. "This semester is a two person group art exhibit. Basically, each of you will have one partner and you will have to create ten paintings for an art exhibit put on at the end of the semester. The project itself is lenient, you'll have plenty of time to work on it, but it does require much collaboration and time."
The class seems to have mixed feelings about this. Half of them are excited, whereas the other half don't want to do a dumb group project. Dream is a part of the latter.
"I've paired you up based on art style and skill. You and your partner will be very different, but I expect you all to work together and make something beautiful," Smith says, smiling as she grabs her spreadsheet. She seems way too excited to be doing this. The teacher starts reading off names, and Dream realizes just how foreign most of these people are to him. Wow, he really doesn't pay attention, huh? "Finally, we have Clay Anderson and George Davidson."
Dream immediately perks up in shock upon hearing both of their names, hoping it's just a joke. He hears some gasps and feels eyes on him. One girl protests. "That's not fair, they're the best in the class, they're going to win."
"Now now, this isn't a matter of winning, it's an art exhibit not a competition," the professor explains calmly.
Dream turns around and shoots the girl a wink, smirking when she blushes in return. He turns and immediately meets George's gaze, who seemed to have been watching him do that. Dream furrows his brows as to say 'what are you looking at?' but George only shrugs and turns back around.
Class ends and Dream dreads the moment that George approaches him.
"Partners, eh?" George says with a smile, clearly trying to make conversation with the person he's going to spend the next few months painting with. Dream wants to crawl into a hole and die just thinking about it.
The blonde only shrugs in response and starts to walk away, and he doesn't expect it when George's soft footsteps are heard running to catch up with him. He walks beside Dream and the blonde lets it happen, staying quiet in hopes George will take the hint and fuck off.
He doesn't.
"What do you want?" Dream stops in his tracks, catching George by surprise who also stops and looks up at him.
"I wanted to talk to you about the project. We have a lot of planning to do, and I'd rather start now," George says, voice far too excited for the task at hand.
Dream rolls his eyes in response and crosses his arms. "Not now, this is my scheduled nap time."
"Isn't this the time you usually spend reading outside the art building?" George asks as if he already knows the answer, which he does. Dream hadn't thought he'd taken notice of this, though.
"No this is my nap time, now if you'll excuse me I'm going to my dorm room. We can talk another day about the project," Dream says, voice cold enough for George to understand.
"Alright, well here's my number. If you want to plan anything, just text me," George says, quickly scribbling his number down on a sticky note and handing it to Dream. The blonde rolls his eyes as George takes off, probably running to his own dorm room to gather his painting supplies and find his boyfriend.
Dream stares at the small fragment of paper in his hands and furrows his brows, putting the note into his pocket and walking towards his dorm building. He'd rather not get close to George, his jealousy making it difficult to see him in a positive light. In all honesty, George doesn't deserve Dream's cold attitude. If anything, he's been nothing but nice to Dream, but the blonde can't help but feel as if it's just for show. Maybe that's just his trust issues talking, though.
