Dating James is sort of like being Gryffindor royalty. I mean, how could it not be? The two of you are the "it" couple of your year, the one nobody thought would ever break up. You were both popular, attractive, smart, and funny, and your energies complement each other perfectly.

James is all about making sure everyone knows you're his. You wore his Quidditch jersey to every match, his sweater on chilly Sunday mornings, and occasionally (though you tried to hide it) a bruised mark from his mouth left over from a drunken evening together. James was definitely the jealous type, though he had no reason to be. It's not that he was insecure, per se, but more that he knew you were wanted by many and their advances annoyed him.

The rest of the Marauders treated you like a little sister, always including you where they could but trying to protect you from the less wholesome things they got up to. Remus would always help you with difficult Potions homework, Sirius was constantly teasing you the way brothers do, and Peter would do any small favor you could think to ask of him. James always loved how easily you got along with his best friends.

James certainly would never own up to it, but he was quite the romantic when it came down to planning little date nights here and there. When it was his turn to plan, you could always count on the fact that there would be candles, starlight, and chocolate-covered strawberries involved.

He was headstrong, nobody could argue that. It was the only thing the two of you really ever disagreed over, especially towards the peak of the war. You wanted him to be a little more cautious and focus on staying alive, but he was prone to charging headfirst into battle without thinking of the consequences.

Watching him become a father to your son was, at first, more than you thought your heart could handle. Your little family, your boys, they were your bright spot during the war. After your son was born, James was always a little more careful when charging out to battle.

Years and years out from your days at Hogwarts, when the war was long over, James would go for drinks with his friends every Saturday night like clockwork. You knew you were invited, but it was his time to reunite with the other guys (who by this time, were all fathers as well) and share their stories of their childrens' lives and reminisce on their time at Hogwarts. He always came home reminding you of the days you were together at school; a little tipsy, a little flirty, and very handsy.
