WORD COUNT: 1248
Nervously, I fussed with the braid in my hair, pacing back and forth in the dormitory. Last week, after Potions, Harry Potter had asked me to come to Hogsmeade with him. Today, seven days later, was Hogsmeade day, and I had never been more nervous for anything in my entire life. Not only had I been in love with him since the first day of second year when we had joint Transfiguration together, but today was also Valentine's Day, the most romantic day of the year, and I was going on a date with Harry Potter.
I had agonized over the right outfit for much too long last night, eventually settling on a pair of jeans and stylish boots with a long coat to keep myself warm, since it was only February. I didn't want to be TOO dressed up, but I also didn't want to look like a slob.
At noon, my friends and I headed down to the courtyard to meet up with the rest of the students to get checked out by Filch so we could head to Hogsmeade. I tried not to look too eager as I scanned the crowd for Harry. He was standing with his friends off to one side, looking almost as nervous as I felt. Ron said something to him and Hermione gave him a cajoling pat on the back and then her eyes met mine and she muttered something to Harry, who quickly turned bright red and whipped around to look at me. I smiled shyly, feeling the blush creep up the back of my neck and over my cheeks.
"Hey," he said as he approached me. My friends had scattered, leaving me alone with him.
"Hi," I smiled, and looked down at my shoes.
"Ready to go then?" he asked, and I nodded. We started walking to Hogsmeade, watching Malfoy trip a little third year on the way. The entire time we were walking we didn't stop chatting about classes, Quidditch, anything and everything really. Despite my initial nerves, once we got talking we couldn't stop. Conversation with Harry was surprisingly easy.
I was glad I had worn boots and a jacket because on the walk down, it started to snow just lightly.
"I love the snow!" I exclaimed before I could stop myself. Harry laughed out loud as I did a little twirl.
"But why? It's so cold and wet," he chuckled. I stared at him incredulously.
"Are you kidding me?! Winter is the best season, by far! Maybe I'm just partial because I was born in December, but still!"
"But in the summer you don't have to worry about being too cold and you can eat ice cream and go swimming and there's no school," Harry argued jokingly.
"Okay yes, but in the winter you can cozy up by the fire with a mug of tea and a book and you can eat pies and all the yummy holiday food and you can play in the snow and there's also no school over the winter break," I countered. We agreed to disagree and continued to walk.
Once we reached Hogsmeade, Harry proposed we go to the Three Broomsticks for a butterbeer to warm up. Inside, it was already bustling with students, but we found a nice secluded table for two by the window and I went to claim it while Harry bought us our drinks.
We talked for the entire afternoon, barely noticing the time pass. When we left the pub, the sun had just slipped below the horizon and darkness was beginning to fall along with the snowflakes. It had been snowing pretty consistently since we had gotten to Hogsmeade and there were small snowbanks forming on the path.
"So you're telling me you've never even ridden a broom?!" Harry gasped incredulously. I shook my head.
"No way, those things are uncontrollable! I would much rather prefer to keep my feet on the ground where I can't fall to my death thank you very much."
"Well what if I took you up on my broom one day so you could see what it was like? I promise I'm a good flyer, and I wouldn't do anything crazy or risky," Harry proposed, stopping at the edge of the village before we began the trek back to the castle. I pulled up beside him and crossed my arms.
"How do I know you aren't just saying that, and then when we get on the broom you'll do some crazy stunt?" I challenged him. He took a step closer to me.
"After all the time we've spent together today and all the secrets I've told you, you still don't trust me?" Heart pounding, I stepped closer.
"You haven't given me a reason to Potter," I smirked. He took a step closer again, and our chests were almost touching. I uncrossed my arms to allow him to come a bit closer.
"Well this is only our first date," he replied. We were almost nose to nose now, and the confident act had long since dropped away.
"F-first date? So there will be more?" I breathed.
"I hope so," Harry whispered, and closed the distance between us. I could feel the cold rim of his glasses pressing into my cheek but I didn't care. It was honestly quite refreshing, because my face was burning up. It felt like literal sparks were flying as Harry's lips moved in sync with mine. Wow, I did not expect him to be this good of a kisser...
Eventually, he pulled away, a goofy grin plastered on his face. I would've laughed at how crazed he looked except that I knew I had a matching expression.
"So I take that to mean you wouldn't say no to another date?" he chuckled. I didn't even know it was possible for my smile to get bigger.
"Now that I've thought about it a little, I think I would probably say yes."
We began our walk back to the castle, the teasing and banter continuing. About halfway up the walk, Harry's knuckles brushed against the back of my hand. My face flushed immediately at the contact. Then they brushed again. Every step we took, it felt like our hands would touch just for one fleeting moment. After a few minutes, I felt Harry's fingers tentatively reach out to grasp mine, and I gladly intertwined my hand with his. I was almost as giddy about holding his hand as I was about the kiss we had shared earlier.
We walked the entire way back to the castle holding each others' hands, and he walked with me all the way to the Great Hall for dinner. Just outside the door, we stopped.
"I had a really fun time tonight, Y/N," he smiled, still not letting go of my hand.
"I did too, Harry. I hope we can do this again soon," I replied, and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek. I don't know what exactly came over me to make me do that, but a sudden burst of courage had come over me. Harry blushed furiously but he was smiling, so I felt like it was a good decision.
We headed our separate ways; Harry to meet up with Ron and Hermione at one end of the Gryffindor table and myself to the Y/H/N table to sit down with my friends and fill them in on all the details about my date with Harry Potter.
