Book 2:Chapter 5: The Woods

*Bang*

Bucky hit the ground and landed. Hard.

Sam froze in fear.

'Bucky!'

He ran over to his friend, scared of what he would see. It had been a far fall. Bucky lay motionless. Sam shook his shoulder.

'Bucky! We have to go!'

Bucky's eyes opened and he turned to Sam.

'Hey Sam'

Sam sighed in relief.

*Explosion*

Sam looked up at the collapsing building.

'Bucky...'
'I know'

Sam took Bucky's arm and helped him up. He stumbled slightly. Sam shot him a concerned look.

'Are you ok?'

Bucky winced.

'Yeah I just landed badly.'
'Oh ok'

They both turned their backs to the destruction and began to walk slowly towards the forest, supporting each other.

To Sam's surprise Bucky was not acting off or upset. Yet he had just been betrayed, injured, violated and controlled in the last few hours.

Sam knew they needed to talk about it soon.

But he left it.

3 hours later

Sam and Bucky had been walking for what felt like years. Not one word exchanged between the two. As they walked through the forest, Sam felt himself unconsciously following Bucky's path.

He seemed like he knew where he was going.

Sam however...

'This place is so familiar' Bucky spoke, breaking the silence.

'What do you mean?'
'I've been here... I can tell'

Bucky stopped and looked around at their surroundings. It just looked like a normal forest to Sam.

'Do you think-'
'Wait'

Sam paused. Bucky lit up.

'There's a house nearby!'

Sam frowned.

'How do you know?'

Bucky faced Sam, momentarily stopped from studying their surroundings. Sam paused. He let himself stare at his friend. He hadn't really looked at him in weeks.

He studied his face. Why.

Why did he have to look so good.

Bucky looked tired but besides the scars, fine. This made Sam sad. It meant Bucky was used to this.

Used to the pain, betrayal and injuries.

Sam on the other hand.

'There's a wooden shack nearby. I remember... I don't know how but I do!'
