Lan Wangji was brooding. There was much to think over;  the night hunt was the last thing on his mind right now, actually. His infatuation with someone so unpredictable and improbable was still stunning to him. He tried to fight the constantly returning thoughts of that  day, with all he had, and - quite unsuccessfully.

Now he was nibbling at his food in silence, casting secret glances at the boy sitting some distance away from him, being so so bored that he resorted to talking to his horse. Wei Wuxian was a disaster, any time, anywhere.

- Ah, horsey, are you as hot and bored as I am? Imagine, I have no one to talk to! Master Lan over there hates me so much he wouldn't even look at me! Poor me, horsey!  – Wei Ying was babbling on, trying to keep his mind away from that same event, not two months ago.

- At least you like me, don't you, horsey? Good horsey! Good boy!  –  he was patting the horse's forehead and laughing. That same laughter that pierced Lan Zhan's heart with the most exquisite pain on earth.

Wei Wuxian was chewing on a blade of dry grass, now staring at Lan Zhan. He never quite understood why the Lan boy hated him so much. He was causing trouble all the time, true,  but it was nothing serious. Right? Just good fun.

Now something caught his eye, and a sudden thought flashed through his mind, leaving him so speechless that  the slim blade of grass fell straight out of his gaping mouth.

- Hey, Lan Zhan... - he approached the calmly sitting boy on all fours, now placing himself to sit close opposite Lan Wangji, - Hmm, I wanna tell you a story that happened to me about a couple of months ago. It's a funny story, and it's a mystery story too. – Wei Wuxian said, seriously.

Lan Zhan's body went numb. Two months ago?

No. No.

He was blindfolded. He didn't see him.

The Lan boy had to remind himself  to breathe in.
