And that day came. I just finished singing, and I already have myself prepared... I'm ready to tell her how I feel.
She's on the phone when I'm walking towards her. It was only a few steps away when I heard her say "I miss you, too. I love you, babe. Take care." Frozen for a second, I find myself moving backward instead of going forward. I should have anticipated that she's in a relationship. I should have thought that not all of her phone conversations are with clients.
"Al," she called out, "the newlyweds liked your singing."
"Gee, thanks."
"I just saw you walking -"
"I was about to ask you if you want something. But you were on the phone, so I walked back." When the truth is, I heard her talking to her boyfriend, and I suddenly felt like an idiot. Whoever he is, he's a lucky guy.
