It is already the finals of the contest. I arrived early at the hall. I sat on the corner to rehearse when the thought of my mother came into my mind. If she's only alive, I know she won't miss it for the world.

I was busy thinking that I haven't noticed someone sat beside me. I was surprised by the figure on my peripheral view. When I turned my head, it's Jamie.

"Hey." She greeted.

"H... Hi." I was hesitant to talk.

"I know it was you. I was at the entrance then I saw a man at the corner, and I know it was you." She smiled.

"Al, I apologize for what happened last time. I am actually ashamed to talk to you. I... I - "

"Nothing bad happened... just forget about it."

"How about the burns?"

"Oh, it's all gone. I told you it's not life-threatening." I laughed. "By the way, I'm glad you're here. I thought you're not coming."

"I told you before, I will be there until you win. And I know you can do it."

"Thanks. I have myself prepared anyway."

We're looking at each other's eyes with smiles on our faces. I'm not aware that we're holding each other's hand; I only noticed it when my finger twitched.

"I'm sorry about this."

"I'm sorry too, Al. By the way, give your all. I'll cheer for you from the audience."

"I'll give my best." I told her. Then I headed backstage to prepare.

The staff handed us our numbers. I received the number seven, which means I will be the last to sing. We are advised to prepare two songs just in case we are chosen for the final three. Then, those three have to compete with each other. Indeed, this excites me.

The first three contestants were done, and the fourth one is currently singing. They are good singers, thus, making this competition challenging. I will really do my best when it's my turn.

"Number seven, be ready." The staff told me. Contestant number six is about to finish her song. Once she's done, I'll sing my heart out.

"Number seven, it's your turn."

Standing in front of everyone, I sing A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. It may be considered a feminine song and is not commonly sang by male singers, but I took my chance. I want to perform something that's new to me.

I wonder why some people are wiping their tears while I'm performing. One of the judges watches me with her hand on her chin; she eyes me differently. I hope my singing isn't awful. I continue in spite of what I see.

One step closer

I have died everyday waiting for you

Darling don't be afraid

I have loved you

For a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand years

I sang with all my heart, doing the best I can. I was surprised when I finished singing; the audience gave me thunderous applause. I smiled and bowed to thank them.
