The next morning she had awoken to sleep crusted, heavy eyes from all the crying she had done. Her cell phone that had been clutched in her hands when she had called Liv, was now plugged in on the night stand next to the hand sanitizer, and masks. "Morning sleepy head, how you doing?" Mia asked from across the room, prepping meds. "Hey. I'm okay." She rasped, pulling herself up to sit against the pillows. "So, Dr. Hanley has you scheduled for some blood tests before surg prep. More importantly, you have a pretty large crowd for visits today, so we have a screen on the door and just let them say hi that way." Erin simply nodded. Her brain felt as if it were stuffed with cotton balls, from the emotional breakdown she suffered from the night before. She didn't regret it, Liv had talked to her most of the night, something that was so beyond overdue. "Earth to Erin? Hello?" Mia said, a flashing blue gloved hand waved in front of her. "Sorry, what?" "I said your first set of visitors is here." Mia said nodding toward the door. She handed Erin a mask, and she placed it on. She turned and saw Kim and Adam, waving awkwardly, and Adam held up a bouquet of flowers. "How you holding up, Lindsay?" Adam said. "You know. Same old, same old. How are you guys?" "Well, we actually have-." Kim elbowed him in the stomach and he immediately stopped. "We're great. Any updates?" Erin arched an eyebrow, and crossed her arms as Mia collected the flowers from them. "Why are you guys being so weird? What's the news, Ruzek?" He rubbed the back of his head awkwardly now. He didn't realize that his foot in mouth as per usual had kicked in to overdrive, and having news to spill, he'd been ready to scream it to the world. "I don't have all day guys, come on." Erin said worriedly. "I'm pregnant." Kim said quietly. The awkwardness stood for a moment, before tears welled in Erin's eyes. "You're really pregnant?" Kim's heart sank. She had been hoping to avoid this until after Erin was out of the hospital. "I'm so sor-." Erin shook her head, a huge smile graced her lips. "Don't you dare be sorry. I'm so happy for you guys. Really. Congratulations! How far along?" "8 weeks."
"That's incredible. You're going to be such amazing parents." "Are you sure you're okay?" "Don't worry about me. There needed to be some good news, especially with all the terrible stuff lately. I'm so excited." Kim looked so relieved, she really didn't come to upset her, and she figured this would be the nail in that coffin. "I wish I could hug you guys right now. But soon." "Thanks for being so supportive, Linds." Ruzek piped up. "Don't be stupid. I love you guys, and this is the best news all year." "Well we won't keep the rest of the guys waiting to see you. But we'll be back to visit as soon as we can." Kim promised, and gestured an air hug, and Adam waved, before they left. Erin sat in silence, processing. Deep down, it hurt. She knew the odds of never having kids after all of this, and it did sting a little. But she would never rob someone of their joy; Kim and Adam didn't deserve that. She was happy for them mostly, and everything she had said to them was true.
